The days of car dealers close to the city centre are almost over. My understanding from former mates who worked in second hand car dealers is that the rent of the actual square under each car is crucial in the calculation of the profit on any sale.
So it is far better to have a large out of town sales pitch where the land is very cheap.

This is why we have places out at Crystal Peaks and up near the old CityAirport.

Kuji Shop are closing up shop on Ecclesall Road. Another nail in the independent traders coffin in Sheffield.

The council should do more to foster the independent offering in Sheffield, especially when they don't mind using the same retailers to advertise the city nationally (ie. in that advert last Christmas)

But are they not closing because they want to shift to an online focus? That's what I heard, or more specifically what Pete McKee tweeted.

The full reasons are on their blog - its due to cost and lack of footfall on Ecclesall Road.

Planning App?

Seems very tight tbh. Hope the developer pays for improvements to the immediate public realm.

Agree that it's tight, the students and the people in the flats will be staring in each other's windows if they don't shut the curtains! Not familar with how to use the planning portal though sorry (I usually rely on people on here!).

Retail below it looks like. At least it will add some density to the start of Eccy Rd

Perusal of Exposed this evening tells me Champs is moving and replacing 'The Ecclesall' or the Pomona as it once was.

I'm no great patron of Champs but thought that was quite a big 'loss' from the main section of Ecclesall Road - the current location is quite a prominent unit...

Yeah, a planning application went in for signage and things a number of months ago, should be just about ready to approve details.

Sad news - Champs did offer something different, compared to the chain shops/ "quirky" places on Eccy Road - it won't get the same patronage in the old Pomona building (plus it'll be up against the cheaper Wetherspoons 100m away)

The Sheaf Island. Nice place actually. But shouldn't it be the Porter Island?

Its a good pub - the standard of Wetherspoons in Sheffield has come a long way since the Bankers Draft opened (pre smoking ban too!). But its going to be competition for the "new" Champs along that end of Eccy Road.
