People who see this topic will think most Kuwaiti women are liberal non-hijabis. They're in for a big surprise when they go to Kuwait.

Oh thanks for your wonderful contribution...highly appreciated :/ To quote what I just posted: Quote:
Anyway this isn't an anthropological survey, I'm just posting some pictures...but if you insist on posting pics of the female contingent of Jam3iyat al I9la7 as a representation of Kuwaiti society then you are more than free to do so (at least someone else other than me would be posting something in this ghost town) |

You needn't quote me twice and you can give yourself a break. I can give you something harder. I don't know why you're making a huge deal out of my remark---I'm simply stating facts. This topic's representation of Kuwaiti women is coming through skewed interpretations. It's obscene contrast with the latest male dominated pictures offers a bipolar conclusion of our society... sadly...

Our society is definitely bipolar, I'll give you that.
...and I'm making a huge deal? Are you sure that's the right word? And the contrast between the 2 sets of pics is obscene? Is that a fact? |

Picture an American wanting to post photographs of his countrywomen, yet all he's capable of showing us are the Amish. That's equivalent of liberal non-hijabis dominating a topic about Kuwait's society.

Also, fyi to anyone who doesn't know, people didn't start wearing hijabs in Kuwait until the 90's.
So if what you're gleaning from what Khaleejian says is conservatism and hijab-wearing as some deeply ingrained, intrinsic part of Kuwaiti society then you are wrong. It was a reactionary, repentative trend that caught on fire after the war. It also reflects the zeitgeist of the Arab world (just look at Egypt). Population-wise, Kuwait was, and still is (along with Bahrain), the most liberal country in the Gulf. Like I said to Khaleejian 3 times in a row (and he miraculously fails to understand, yet he takes issue with me repeating my self) my intentions are not to show 1 aspect of Kuwaiti society. This thread is new and only 3 pages long and I'm posting pics as I find them (they're mainly from one source), there's no conceit here. And, Khaleejian, the Amish thing? I've lived in the US for 11 years and I've never seen a single Amish person, if you think that's an appropriate comparison then you're obviously tripping. |

By the effing way, the hijab trend in Kuwait began as early as the mid 70s's Salafist revival and intensified as we extended into the 80s. So the whole idea that women only began to dress up in hijabs after Uncle Sam's bailout is a wrong commotion. Ciao.

I'm perfectly calm, but you obviously think that I'm making "huge" deal out of this...well, you're obviously projecting lol.
I don't think you have a problem with me posting pics of liberals (I'm assuming you are one?). I'm just telling you that this thread is new, the reason i started it was because I found a bunch of images from *the same source* (ie there was a thematic thread connecting the photos) and it would be nice for this thread to grow and have a more diverse subject matter, but you're making it seem like I have some delusional view of Kuwaiti society...blah blah blah Anyway back to posting pics... PS: People didn't start wearing hijabs in earnest until the 90's, is what I meant to say. People wearing hijabs in the 70's and 80's were still a minority, "by the effing way". PPS: "Go to Hollywood" ? :/ |

Just out of curiosity, when did women in Kuwait start getting rid of their 3bii in large?

and I don't think "the most liberal in the Gulf" as a title is worth anything really.
