why are the roads so small and narrow ? seems like every 'major' road is just too small for any city not alone the capital city. They need a complete reconstruction with a better grade asphalet for these roads. Other than that, Love the energy and the life of the the city and its dewlers. Good updates too my friend. Cheers

The city was designed too host 100,000 people since the 50s the city has had no real uncorrupt city runners till the modern day Kcca who for the most part have been a success in my opinion they have fixed over 100 major roads which were in a terrible state and implemented the city buses, and installed street lighting in the first year tbh Kampala needs the next 5 years to fix up even in 09 the city council was corrupt n maintenance was terrible .

KCCA is the city authority in charge of running the city, it is a government organization that came into force last year with a new mandate and a CEO who is a bureaucrat to insulate it from political pressures as initially the head of the former city authority was a politician.

KCCA was set up by Museveni, the president of Uganda, in order to undermine the elected Mayor, who belongs to a different political party. For a long time the city of Kampala has been an opposition strong hold, much to the annoyance of Museveni.Through KCCA he wants to increase NRM's(his party) influence in the City.It is true that some of the Mayors (that belonged to the Democratic Party)of Kampala were corrupt, but not all of them were.Sebanna Kizito was not a crook. He tried his best is the face of constant political interference from Museveni and his cronies. For example, he told the vendors to vacate the streets of kampala , but Museveni ordered them to stay. He used money given to KCC by the world bank to renovate the Nakivubo channel. The project was completed on time and under budget. He used any money that was left over from the project to renovate the road leading up to the King's palace in Lubiri. Those are just a few of his acheivements.Sebagala was a crook . There is a saying - "You get the leaders you deserve".Maybe Kampala and Uganda deserve(d) Sebagala(and Museveni/NRM) because corruption in Ug is endemic at all levels of society.

I hope Jennifer Musisi does a good job and resists confrontations with the elected Mayor,Lukwago. They should work hand in hand to smarten up Kampala, which is surely still one of the dirtiest capital cities in E.Africa.

I will get off my political soap box now.

Some of the pictures posted in this thread are brilliant. u.g. boy and other posters have done a good job. However some of the buildings are plain ugly. Some tycoons in Kampala who own the ugly buildings may be very rich but sadly, money does not buy class. They have done more harm than good by putting up strctures that spoil the once beautiful(in the 1960s) Kampala.
Those buildings are not classic and will not stand the test of time.
