Siemens wins second order for concentrated solar power plant in India Siemens Energy has been awarded an order for the Megha parabolic trough concentrating solar thermal power plant to be built in Andhra Pradesh, near Hyderabad, India. The Siemens UVAC 2010 receiver as a key component of a solar thermal power plant features extremely high solar absorption and reduced heat loss with outstanding product durability. The special oil in this tube is heated to around 400°C and is used to transform water to steam at a different location. This steam, in turn, drives a turbine, which is used to ultimately generate electricity. Siemens Energy has been awarded an order to supply UVAC 2010 (Universal Vacuum Air Collector) solar receivers for the Megha parabolic trough power plant to be built in Andhra Pradesh, near Hyderabad, India. Megha is now the second project in India to be equipped with solar receivers from Siemens. Purchaser is Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd. Siemens will supply approximately 17,000 solar receivers, which will generate all of the heat for the 50 megawatt (MW) facility. Commissioning for the solar plant is scheduled for spring 2013. Siemens UVAC 2010 receivers, which convert thermal solar energy to heat, provide developers with consistently high revenues as a result of their high solar absorption and product durability. The UVAC 2010 is Siemens fifth generation solar receiver product, with outstanding heat output and reliability proven over 20 years of successful solar power plant operations. The Megha power plant is being constructed as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), the Indian government's ongoing program for promoting solar power. The program envisages installing up to 20 gigawatts of solar power capacity in India by the year 2022. "The Indian market is of great importance for us, and we are committed to supplying the best in products, such as the UVAC 2010, as well as complete systems," said Shmuel Fledel, CEO of Siemens Solar Thermal Energy Business Unit. "It is gratifying to see local developers like Megha recognizing the quality of our technology." Siemens offers highly efficient products as well as system solutions, such as solar fields, power blocks and complete plant solutions, for parabolic trough power plants. As already announced earlier this year, Siemens received an order to supply UVAC 2010 solar receivers for the Abhijeet power plant in Rajasthan, India. Additionally Siemens has been awarded in January three orders to supply a total of four steam turbine generator units for solar thermal power plants in the same state. "After careful review of solar receiver, we decided to select the UVAC 2010 based on its proven track records and performance," noted Shri B. Srinivasa Reddy, Director of Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd. "The solar receiver is one of the critical components in the power plant, and its continuous output over the life of the project is critical for our revenues." Products and solutions for solar thermal power plants are part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2011, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about €30 billion, making Siemens one of the world's largest suppliers of ecofriendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by nearly 320 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo. |

Astra Microwave to invest Rs 25 cr in new fab unit HYDERABAD, MAY 5: Astra Microwave Products Ltd is investing Rs 25 crore to create new fabrication facilities near Hyderabad. These include laser welding, automated soldering and latest electronics and so on. The company is a component and systems supplier to the defence and allied sectors. The company is beefing up its facilities with an eye on defence offset contracts as well as several major programmes of the Space and Defence departments in which its expertise in radio frequency and microwave technology has immense scope. The Hyderabad-based company, which crossed Rs 200 crore in turnover last fiscal, is raising funds through banks and internal accruals to invest in the facilities, said Mr B. Malla Reddy, Managing Director. It has an order book of Rs 732 crore. In the next 4-5 years, the company is confident of growing at 50 per cent. The defence offsets clause — which stipulates 30 per cent of any contract over Rs 300 crore to be sourced from within India — offers good opportunities for us, Mr Malla Reddy told Business Line. Astra Microwave was one of the first private sector companies to bag an order under the offsets policy in 2008, when the Indian Government opened the doors. To meet the expected delivery schedules and commitments, the company has redrawn its development and production plans creating different verticals. The company achieved a profit of Rs 33.20 crore, a growth of 67 per cent over fiscal 2010-11 and has announced a dividend of 35 per cent. A Rs 350-crore export order recently substantially boosted its order book position. Astra Microwave provides components and systems support for radars, satellites and missiles through its expertise in RF and microwave technologies. It has Rs 400 crore worth of export projects and over Rs 300 crore worth of orders from the strategic sector, Mr Malla Reddy said. |

Andhra Pradesh unveils electronic hardware policy Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday unveiled the state electronic hardware policy offering a slew of incentives, including 100 per cent reimbursement of value-added tax (VAT) and goods and services tax (GST), for a period of five years to those who set up units in Hyderabad and other parts of the state. Under the policy, the government has also exempted the electronic hardware industry from any power cuts and statutory inspections, except in the case of a specific complaint, besides facilitating three-shift operations with women working in the night shifts as well. Releasing the electronic hardware policy at the two-day IT summit, the chief minister urged the companies to make use of the government policy and the conducive environment available here to start their operations. Among the key initiatives to back up the policy incentives, the government has proposed to create four hubs (or clusters) in and around the newly-built outer ring road around the state capital, common testing and incubation facilities, a common fund under public-private participation to promote design, manufacturing, assembling and innovation, a single-window system for necessary clearances, among others. The government has brought under the policy close to 170 non-semiconductor items besides a whole range of semiconductor manufacturing and testing equipment and parts used in making semiconductor equipment. And, there are items like televisions and high-definition televisions that do not come under the policy. Incentives such as 100 per cent reimbursement of stamp duty, transfer duty and registration fee paid on sale/lease deeds etc, 50 per cent reimbursement on second transaction, power subsidy ranging from 10 per cent to 50 per cent limiting to Rs 30 lakh for a period of five years, among other discounts, are also offered to companies. According to the government figures, Andhra Pradesh, which houses 300 electronic manufacturing units, ranks fifth in electronics hardware production in the country |

Govt keen to boost IT hardware manufacturing: Pilot
http://businesstoday.intoday.in/stor.../1/185721.html Sachin Pilot, the Union Minister of State for IT and Communications, says the government is keen to see that electronics and hardware manufacturing becomes the next big thing to come out of India. "I see no reason why we can't become a manufacturing hub for we have the young people, we have the engineering design capability and can become global suppliers for electronics manufactured goods and the government of India is looking to do this,'' he said, delivering the inaugural address at the two-day annual IT summit "Advantage AP" in Hyderabad on Thursday. He pointed out that the opportunity was huge in the hardware sector even within the country. "Today, the electronics demand in India is about $50 billion including all goods where electronics are involved - be it white goods, televisions, computers or laptops or washing machines. In eight years this demand will be $400 billion and that will be more than the oil import bill of this country,'' he said. Earlier, J Satyanarayana, Secretary, Department of Electronics and IT, said the government would be coming out with an appropriate 'Hardware and Electronics Policy'. As for the IT services sector, Pilot said it had grown significantly and was today employing 29 lakh people in the country, contributing to 8 per cent of the GDP. "We have crossed the $100 billion mark and are now looking to cross $300 billion of IT and ITeS exports by 2020," he said. Referring to IT infrastructure, he said, "I am here to reiterate the fact that in the next two to three years, India will have an IT infrastructure that will be second to none in the world. We are going to light up every single Panchayat in this country with optical fibre.'' At the event, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy unveiled the state's "Electronics and Hardware Policy 2012-17". |

Hyderabad to host electronics industry cluster Hyderabad is all set to host an electronics city – an electronic hardware manufacturing cluster – on a 500-acre plot of land located close to the international airport. The land was part of a 1,200-acre Fab City project proposed some four years back, which failed to take off for a variety of reasons. The cluster will be driven by homegrown players, all in the small and medium-scale category. These companies are also looking at possible collaborations with players from Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. The cluster will be provided with infrastructure and e-waste management facilities. “The 500-acre plot has just got de-notified from the SEZ (special economic zone) area and the process of allotments to electronics units has already been initiated,” said N Siva Prasad, president of the Electronics Industries Association of Andhra Pradesh (ALIAP). The government has set up a single-window facility for all clearances, including allotment of land for those planning to set up units in the cluster. The land is enough for about 200 units of all sizes, from micro to medium, according to ALIAP. The new facility will also give a chance to enter into collaborations and joint ventures with electronics hardware manufacturers in countries like Taiwan, according to Prasad. His association has been working with its counterparts in Taiwan and Japan, among other countries, to bring business delegations to Andhra Pradesh to explore collaborative opportunities. The state government had recently announced the electronics hardware manufacturing policy while offering various incentives to the units, including sales tax reimbursement. The industry association, however, is seeking a flat five-year tax holiday for the new units in place of the present VAT (value-added tax) reimbursement scheme, which it considers time-consuming. These units will also avail themselves of capital subsidy announced under the M-SIPS (modified-special incentive package scheme) by the Central government in July 2012. Electronics manufacturing units will get a 25 per cent subsidy in project cost if they are located in the domestic tariff area. The subsidy is 20 per cent for export units located in an SEZ. About 29 categories of products are eligible for the M-SIPS incentives, including IT hardware, consumer electronics, medical electronics, solar photovoltaic and semiconductor chips and chip components, among others. |
