MAHB's KLIA2 tender draws overwhelming response
Published: 2012/06/23
http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_New...2RENT/Article/

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd's (MAHB) tender for all four phases of commercial space at the new low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT), or KLIA2, has received overwhelming response.

The rental submissions reached over RM2,000 per sq m a mth (sqm/mth), MAHB senior general manager commercial services Faizah Khairuddin said.

Faizah said based on the overall tender submission, the average rental ranges from RM300/sqm/mth to RM1,050/sqm/mth.

"In some cases, we received rental submission as high as over RM2,000/sqm/mth.

"This well demonstrates the confidence that commercial operators have in the potential growth and business viability at KLIA2, with its innovative retailing concept," Faizah said in a statement yesterday.

Faizah said over 1,600 interested parties comprising retailers, food and beverages (F&B) and services operators attended the tender briefing sessions.

The briefings were conducted in phases with 133 different opportunities made available. Phase One was conducted in December last year, Phase Two in end-February/early March this year, Phase Three in April while Phase Four in May.

The first, second and third phases involved 27, 39 and 37 tenders, respectively. The fourth one offers 30 tenders, comprising individual lots as well as packaged deals.

She said a total of 161 outlets had been tendered for the first day of operations at KLIA2.

"Successful bidders for Phase One will be announced early July 2012 and they will be notified by post," she said, adding that MAHB received over 170 tender submissions for the first phase.

Faizah said the brands and products proposed by the successful bidders were also perfected by creative concepts, originality and engagement - values that are synonymous with the KLIA2 retail brand principles.

For the fourth phase of tender exercise, the documents can still be purchased until this Monday.

"The tender submission deadline for fourth phase is 3pm on July 2 2012," she said.

More information on the said KLIA2 tender briefing is available at www.klia2retail.com.my.

AirAsia has LCCT backup plan
By Bilqis Bahari
Published: 2012/07/02

TERMINAL OPTIONS: Airline may shift to other hubs in the country if it doesn’t move to KLIA2, says CEO

AIRASIA Bhd will likely shift to its other hubs in Malaysia should the budget carrier decide not to move to the new low-cost carrier terminal, KLIA2.

Newly-appointed AirAsia chief executive officer Aireen Omar told Business Times that there is a backup plan in case KLIA2 is not built per the airline's requirements that emphasise on safety, security as well as cost effectiveness.

Besides Kuala Lum- pur, the budget carrier has hubs in Sabah (Kota Kinabalu International Airport), Sarawak (Kuching International Airport), Johor (Senai International Airport), Penang (Penang International Airport) as well as a virtual hub in Singapore (Changi International Airport).

Aireen added that AirAsia is still in talks with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and is looking forward to the completion of KLIA2 which is on track to be opened in April 2013.

"We are not too worried about the move, actually. We do have a backup plan if we don't move to KLIA2," she said, declining to provide further details.

Speaking on competition with upcoming low-cost carriers (LCCs) such as Borneo Airways that might take place in the country, Aireen said being a strong regional airline, AirAsia is ahead of other LCCs.

She said AirAsia is the first LCC in the country and has a first mover advantage as well as a unique cost which is envied by many worldwide.

The budget carrier also has a huge network of over 150 routes that is interconnected within Malaysia and the Asean region.

Coupled with its strong branding and audiences, AirAsia is a force to reckon with, she said. The budget carrier has the whole Asean region with about 600 million population as its playground.

"It is going to be difficult for anyone to try to compete with us but certainly we will have to keep an eye on them," she said.

Meanwhile, on the Asean Open Sky Policy that will take effect in 2015, Aireen said AirAsia is looking forward to it since the policy will allow the budget carrier to fly anywhere.

"We have established ourselves as a leader of low-cost carrier in the region and from what we have already built, we don't see it as an issue. In fact, we welcome it because it will help us to grow faster," she said.

The first female in the country to helm one of the world's famous budget carrier, Aireen said she will ensure there will always be good team effort in the company.

Aireen said it is very important to recognise, complement and leverage on the team's strengths so that the budget carrier will continue growing.

"As a leader, I would be most satisfied and contented if I see people that I work with continue to improve and reinvent themselves because when you do that, then the opportunity for us to grow as a company is even bigger," she said.

Probably another excuse for them to shift the operation in Jakarta or Don Muang in near future. They get so-call-freedom over there it seems ~

to shift flights from KUL will be utterly stupid move, operationally. They are just dangling 'stupid' carrots in front of government's equally stupid mule. If i were the PM, i'll say go ahead then, KUL operation has been the most profitable, this is just wont happening, they just wanna create issues here.

That is why we need FY to restart their jet operations ASAP. To board and disembark with aerobridges meant a lot for most people. Competitions please!

Bitch learn fast, didn't she?

Like I said in the other thread, it remains to be seen whether the MAHB people have the balls required to see this out
And on second thoughts, whether they have the brains to realize they do have cards to deal with in this game
And the orange one - what better time than now to make moves for a comeback to the jet set scene. Instead of the pathetically wimpy "we will concentrate on turboprop ......."

But then at end of the day, you'll probably find the red one has one too many cable at its disposal - then we revert to square one yet again

If people insist on turning squatters at the place, how to tutup ?!
Like LCCT, BKI's T2 also supposed to be turned for cargo use
In BKI's case, should already be, if not for the recalcitrant squatter

Sperma. Skim spenda 1 malaysia. Dey tanni, you can stay at LCCT if you want. Let the aircraft parked at taxiway L and let your passengers walk through rain and shine.
