Was the type of Turkish plane shot by the Syrians an F-16 B50/52? Because I would love to know where did the Syrian air defense forces got their systems! Probably Russian or Chinese technology.

it was an RF-4E recon variant. but the syrians do have pretty decent and modern air defences... (better than Iran certainly).

How can their air defences be better than Iran's when Iran has a stronger economy compared to Syria and a higher BNP?

hmmm. we are the first customer for the KA350i-ISR planes. they also trust us with some pretty advanced radars they sold us as well as the latest block-52 F16s with the HMCDS. THey also gave us some pretty modern equipment for our ABRAMS tanks (M1A2 standard FCS and TUSK-KIT), among many other examples.

yet, they still have not supplied us with the AIM-120C7s and AIM-9Xs.

not many, no. only 2 other countries have the same equipment for the abrams, and only 2 countries have the same equipment for an ISR plane. so we are pretty advanced in certain aspects. Also dont forget the extremely vigorous training that all iraqi units, and especially the SPECFOR went through with the US. This sort of thing is unparalleled. Yet the US at the same time denies Iraq the sort of equipment that would allow Iraq to effectively deter US-Allied neighbours in the air (gulf states / turkey / israel)

The KA350i-ISR is nothing but a modified passenger plane -_- . In term of tanks they only trust us with only 140 M1A2 ( Kuwait has over 250).

Iraq has the option to purchase 140 more, but the ministry of defence may be looking to buy different tanks.

That would be a smart idea. The Abrams are very fast but they use a ridiculous amount of fuel.

what logic. ALL "special" electronic warfare / spy aircraft" are "modified passenger planes".

I honestly don't know what's up with the M1A1SA second order... maybe we'll get the FMS sale notification through soon since saadoun dulaymi was in the US to "discuss and finalise" some things... but honestly even 280 Abrams is a drop in the ocean compared to Iraq's real needs, they would need at least 700 additional tanks on top.

Iraq is not buying any MBT other than the Abrams or else why are we training our boys on it in the first place?! I think the FMS press release will include 740 units.
