As a resident hour away from Gold Coast, Australia. Everyone knows its very similar to Miami in terms of culture, lifestyle, education, wealth and geographic location. No one has noticed about the highrises in conjunction to Miami. Gold Coast has a suburb of Miami, Miami Beach and Miami west just south of the CBD areas of Surfers Paradise (where the tallest building is -Q1 tower) and Southport.

Gold Coast = Miami

Honolulu = Byron Bay, Australia (in exception of buildings: other factors is very similar).

I guess Miami and Panama City, Panama really do look that much alike.

Panama City is more spread out with tall buildings going in all directions, Miami - is more linear, imo.

At first glance, I had to do a double take of today's banner of Panama City.

Yikes. Maybe it's just me but to my eyes any "cool" factor with that building is totally erased by the pedestal and the spire. Without those---and maybe another 20 floors of the 'twisty' stuff---I think it would be great.

I dunno. It's kind of like putting a Picasso on top of a cardboard box of tomatoes.

Hence, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." As for the "pedestal," that architectual concept is incorporated into many - if not most - of the buildings in Panama City as vertical parking facilities. I mention this only to add perspective, not alter your perception.

I kinda like it. The pedestal is 'meh'... but I guess I'm numb to them living in Miami. I really almost don't notice them anymore. To be honest it's really about the only building I like the look of in Panama. But then, Espirito Santo Plaza is still the only one in Miami that really moves me as well. I'm too picky.

I do love Hearst Tower in NYC, prob still my fav worldwide. What can I say I'm a sucker for symmetry and geometric shapes. The top of course... Can't say I have any love for that abomination of a pedestal that the preservation NIMBY's on NYC forced them to keep at the base.

I personally think that thing is an eyesore (I HATE it), but I do admire the bravery of the architect. And I love the facade!

Most modern architecture is an eye-sore. Damn those modernists.
Since the cavemen, art and architecture has had a purpose of being beautiful; of enhancing our earthly lives...
And then comes the cultural marxists and destroy it all with their dadaism, modernism and whatnot.
