i agree with most of the list, but i think nashville should be on it, because of country music.

Nashville is nice but it still has a low profile globally .... I was thinking in other big / famous cities as Istanbul, Rio, St Petersburg, Marrakech.....

i too was expecting too see more familiar names. I wonder what a more realistic list would look like? Surely Paris and New York should still be on it. |

On the loved or hated list? Besides, most countries have their own folk/country music so only view Nashville as the US version of that genre.

I think we're getting a bandwagon rolling for Nashville....
btw, Sydney and Melbourne are 2 cities; not even close to each other. Like LA/SF or NY/Boston. As for LA, that's how I think of it: sort of mixing the cultural isolation of Timbuktu with the ethnicity of Peru (OK, Mexico, but close enough). |

I do agree that Nashville wouldn't come close to being on a "World's Top 10 List". Maybe an American Top 25.

It is, but we have a domestic country music industry that runs parallel to the US one. Historically, Canadian country came from the Maritimes and later Ontario/Alberta.

I think that Nashville is totaly unknown outside the USA. Clearly, this is an american list.

But as for the city itself I don't think many people could name any streets, landmarks, etc or anything other than country music that goes on there.... They probably make whiskey around there I guess!

I would guess the truth is in between. For sure Nashville is known in Europe among the reasonably well educated or musically literate; I've seen country music fests in Germany.
But it's certainly not like NY or Hollywood, etc., among the general population. |

Shame on you CNN. Póvoa de Varzim should be at the top spot of the list.
