In the foreground you see some roadworks on West Street. So it seems finally the northbound lanes will be shifted, so that the last temporary bridge part over the East-West Connector can be disassembled.. took a long time though

The Sphere...the Fritz Koenig sculpture stood in the Tobin Plaza at the foot of the twin towers for all their history. The towers tumbled down........tons of steel, concrete and lives fell to the ground. This sculpture stood almost intact amongst the rubble. I saw this standing at Battery Park surrounded by a memorial field of flags on Sept 11 2007. I had only seen it once before turning slowly on the WTC plaza in 2000. The WTC memorial is more than this sculpture but also this sculpture is part of the former WTC......a survivor if damaged. Like New York....like people of New York. It should be somewhere here..........It should !
......infact, with all the grade changes imagine this one item standing at it's original location it occupied in the many days of sunshine, rain, sleet, snow, wind and life of the history of the WTC till the morning of 9/11/2001. Maybe this spot is now half inside or above or near something new but imagine one place you could reinstate the whole former place around............The footprints are most important yet as someone who walked through the doors of the WTC I try and imagine where that is now ?

Are the lanes they are currently building at West Street permanent?
The temporary lanes they constructed lately for the western lanes were finished a lot faster, the lanes they are working on right now seem to involve a lot more work, also lots of drains etc. have been installed there the last months.. it's about time that this part of West Street gets a more permanent look! |

Interesting concepts at the Pocket Park at 48th street,it's a shame features like this will never get implemented due to the nature of the project.

June 16, 2012, 10:05 pm Cuomo and Christie Request Federal Financing for Sept. 11 Museum By MICHAEL SCHWIRTZ Amid the seemingly interminable wrangling over financing for the National September 11 Memorial Museum, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York and Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey sent a letter to the National Park Service on Saturday seeking federal money for the project. For months, disputes over financing and control of the eight-acre museum site at ground zero have hamstrung construction and delayed its opening until at least next year. Read on.. |

In all of the renderings of the memorial, the asphalt area immediately west of the ventilation structures is shown as landscaped with trees, pavers, and grass. Is that still planned for that part of the memorial?

June 28, 2012 Port Authority head supports making WTC sphere that survived 9/11 attacks part of memorial NEW YORK — Michael Burke’s voice still cracks when he talks about how his older brother Billy, a firefighter in Manhattan, was helping two people in the World Trade Center when the towers fell on Sept. 11, 2001. His tone darkens when he talks about the refusal of organizers overseeing the 9/11 memorial and museum to include a large spherical sculpture that survived the attacks and currently sits just south in Battery Park. “They say the sphere is reminding us directly of the attacks,” he said. “That kind of ignores the sphere’s existence. It’s absurd. Barring it from the site is a betrayal.” Read on.. |

I think it should stay either in the museum or at the new park being built. Face it, it's a hunk of trash that didn't look too good in the first place. I don't want it to clutter the memorial. It should stay in the museum where it's more appropriate or at the park across the street.
