The RCT High Speed Rail Project

I'll be honest. I like high speed rail. It's something that I can't deny. In fact, I like it so much that I've begun virtual model railroading...

http://i659.photobucket.com/albums/u...truction02.png

It comes with a twist, however. The program I'm using is no train sim or 3ds max plugin... it's actually an old, 2004 game completely unrelated to trains: Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. Some people are haters and wonder why I don't use software that are more "suitable" for model railroading, but why I prefer using RCT3 over other train simulators is because RCT3 forces you to be more hands-on, and allows a much greater amount of detail.

Of course, the transformation from a theme park simulator to a high speed rail simulator would not have been made possible without the RCT community, who have modified nearly every part of the game. I must also thank Justin Chan, for designing and importing the high speed trains that you now see.

If support here is strong, I may post more screens and even some videos.

Good work, I like how you've used RCT for completely different purposes, very imaginative. Was the actual rail infrastructure created by you, or is it something you've incorporated from the game itself?

RCT3 has "tracked rides" which basically allows vehicles (or consists) to travel on a track. These are usually intended for roller coasters... and the farthest the designers got would be the amusement park miniature railway. Everything else, including the viaducts, the catenaries, and the tunnels (yes, the tunnels), were built piece-by-piece with custom scenery.

Love it Those are some sexy looking trains. Are they models of existing trains or your creations?

They are models of real-life trains; a friend was nice enough to model them for me.

This is awesome. I had no idea that RCT3 was customizable. I played RCT1 and RCT2 when I was in middle and high school and I loved it a lot. I'm not very good at video games, so I was stuck on the beginner levels always and made very little money, but I still liked playing RCT and building inverted roller coasters.

Project Anniversary:

This is considered my flagship piece in my art portfolio for college applications. I spent roughly 4-5 months building the RCT3 maps (sets), while compositing took around 1-2 months; on average, I spent around 6 months making this. It's a personal achievement for me, because this is the first time that I have successfully composited real people into a virtual environment. Train models in this video are, in order of appearance, CRH2C, CRH3C, CRH380A, made by Justin Chan, aka TycoonCoaster.

Comments and criticism is welcome.

Impressive work, I would feel honored to display and construct this set within the RCT3 Theme park world. Would like to know when this could be available for download. Use of credits will appear within park.

Thank you, but as stated, I did not make the trains. While I did assist in planning, most of the hard work was done by other members of the RCT-HSR Consortium.

Sorry, but the trains are joint property owned by the RCT-HSR Consortium and are currently not available for download, although we plan to release them in the future.

Your version of CRH380A looks stunning. The "bulge" above the 2 side wheels is a cat's meow. Love the bridge too. Like to see a bridge like that in Lhasa-Xigaze railway and acrose the Yarlun Zangbo Grand Canyon.

Thank you, but I did not make the trains. The trains were designed by a friend.
