INDORE: The city will have its own full fledged auto test track by the end of next year. The National Automotive Testing Centre is being developed on 4140 acres of land in Pithampur by the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP), which works under union ministry of heavy industries and public enterprises.

The work on the Rs 500cr project, which began in September last year, is in full swing and likely to be completed by December (2012).

Apart from some of the major automotive companies which were having their own testing centres, the union government was already having its own national centre under the ministry of defence for automotive testing at Ahmednagar on 450 acre, having 17 different tracks. The idea behind choosing Pithampur for the testing centre was its ideal location.

Forthcoming Indore facility, which will be known as National Automotive Test Track (Natrax), will act as a development test centre under which the vehicle manufacturers will go for comprehensive development testing so as to carry out performance evaluation and assess the durability before sending them to market.

Talking to ToI, Dr N Karuppaiah, additional director who is supervising work at the site said, "On being operational, the will give employment to about 250 people". The Indore facility was being developed along with two other such facilities in the country at places like Chennai and Manesar, near Gurgaon.

But, unlike the Indore facility, the two other facilities were being developed as homologation centres where vehicles are tested for certifying purposes, said Karuppaiah. Once operational, the Indore facility will be able to test even the high-end sports vehicles that can run at a speed of 250 km/hr to 350 km/hr. We have included this facility by keeping future requirement in mind, said Karupaiah.

Having gone through the ups and downs of land acquisition for IT majors TCS and Infosys, now the state government is all set to roll out the red carpet for another IT major. Sources claim that the new entrant in the coveted list of IT bigwigs establishing base at Indore could be either HCL or Oracle.

The state government in the recent past is busy transforming Indore as the new IT hub of the country. The state already has assured 100-acre land to TCS and Infosys each on subsidised rates.

Quizzed on the issue of formal MoUs to be signed with TCS and Infosys after undertaking the process of land registries, industry minister Kailash Vijayvergiya said the state government had given letters to these companies, which was sufficient for applying for the SEZ status.

“There is no need for separate MoUs with these companies,” claimed the minister. When asked about the deadline on which the IT giants would be handed over the land, the minister said that formalities are completed and the companies could be handed over the land whenever they ask for it.

The minister, however, refused to comment on the next prospective investor slated to establish foothold in Indore. However, highly placed sources in the state government are claiming that third company is due to establish base at Indore shortly. This third major project could be from the HCL or from hardware and software manufacturer Oracle.

With most of the established IT hubs of the country nearing saturation, most of the IT companies are heading towards tier II cities. Indore with its strategic location and availability of skilled manpower has emerged as the most favourable destination among tier II cities.

The state had organised a road show in Hyderabad last December and close to 80 prominent hardware and software developers had held discussions with the state government officials.

Indore: After IT giant Tata Consultancy Service Ltd's project in Indore was granted Special Economic Zone (SEZ) status by the union ministry of commerce on January 24, another IT major Infosys' project is likely to get the same status by the end of February or early March this year.

Sources said that non-availability of land was a major issue due to which Infosys could not apply for the SEZ status before January 24. Now that the land acquisition issues have been resolved and the company was going to sign memorandum of understanding (MoU) with state government on January 31, decks have been cleared for the IT major to enable it to get the special status.

"The next board of approval meeting for granting SEZ status will be held in February end or March first week and it is likely that Infosys will get SEZ status ", development commissioner, Madhya Pradesh, A K Rathore said.

The state government had approved the land allotment to the companies and the Cabinet decision was forwarded to the companies through e- mail along with a draft of MoU.

These companies had returned the MoU with suggestions for changes which had been incorporated by the government.

Indore: With the growing demand of land from IT companies from both within and outside the state, the state government would develop a new hub of around 1,000 acre of land and would offer concession on land to these companies.

"Apart from TCS and Infosys, other companies like Wipro and Oracle have also evinced interest in investing in Indore and the project reports of these companies is also positive," industry minister Kailash Vijayvergiya told scribes on Tuesday.

The minister claimed that this would generate a land requirement of around 1,000 acre on super corridor and the divisional commissioner Prabhat Parashar has been directed to check the land viability.

Vijayvergiya revealed that after major IT players, smaller units of the states are also demanding concessions for their projects and the state government is seriously pondering over this.

Collector Raghvendra Singh also present on the occasion said that indigenous companies like Suvi and Impetus have also contacted the state government for their new projects.

According to sources, the Indore Development Authority would develop a new scheme in the vicinity of super corridor and later the hub would be handed to the IT department of the state government.

Earlier it was planned that the IDA would directly hand over the developed land to IT companies but later it was revealed that these companies would also be required to be given land as per state government policies, so that plan was altered.

It is worth mentioning that with the growing demand of land, the existence of proposed medical hub has plunged into uncertainty. The medical hub also is expected to come up on 500 acres on the super corridor.

Apart from 230 acre of land provisioned for TCS and Infosys, these companies would require around 177 acre of additional land in future.

@indorian.. the news about oracle , hcl and 1000 acres has what basis? it could be hearsay?? @ the levels these highly placed guys operate, its hard to keep a secret. it never happens that you wake up one day and your news headlines read land acquisited and alloted to a global it giant yesterday.

BSNL to erect 30 new mobile towers in Indore

INDORE: Indore Divisional BSNL will set up 30 mobile towers in Indore city for better connectivity.

A latest survey by BSNL found that there was a very poor connectivity due to private operators' towers erected at many places in the city, its spokesman Shyam Yadav said in a statement here.

Besides private operators, the high-rise buildings and multi-flats were also found to be another reason for poor connectivity, he said.

Thirty locations have been identified to erect new towers and the work would start soon, he said.
