I know what you're saying, some buildings really should have their awnings removed because they would look a lot better without them. The picture of Treasury Row you're thinking of would probably be this one of mine from just before its demolition, as Treasury Row has had suspended awnings from the time it was re-facaded in the 1920s-30s.

I prefer awnings. In london there were none and it was a pain in the ass. Awnings done well are fine

I noticed there weren't many awnings in London, and it's a pain because it rains so much. I was told it was because of the occasional snow they get. The weight of it would collapse any flimsy awning.
Thanks for the latest update. I'd like this building to be taller, but I'm starting to like it as an above average filler. Quote:
I'm actually getting a bit put out with some of the trees in the city, especially Adelaide St. I know trees are good, people bad, etc, etc. But in some places they ruin good streetscapes and get in the way of photos that I want to take. Nearby parks, forrests, Mt Cootha, etc have thousands of trees, do we really need them all down Adelaide Street as well? Last edited by Aussie Bhoy; July 2nd, 2012 at 04:02 AM. |

Aussie I had not thought of that but perhaps taller would have been better, but anyway it's half done it seems just won't be as bad looking as I thought.

Small sections of glazing are starting to be installed.
Sorry - no photos at the moment, but sections are visible from the rear laneway and from Elizabeth Street over the side laneway. Channeling for glazing is also present adjacent to 171 George Street on Elizabeth Street frontage. |

How does the glazing look Duke? Decent quality stuff or cheap and nasty looking?

+1 Wish there were more awnings down in Melbourne, it really sucks in the rain.

Cheers CantStopProgress! Nice to see some glass on the rear of the podium – much nicer than looking down that lane straight onto a three odd story concrete wall! Bit hard to pick the look of the glass yet... your first photo makes it look like 275 George St a bit, but the second photo looks a bit closer to Soliel & Infinity glass. The tower glass might be different as well, so I'll reserve judgement.

Looks like the corebox is being dismantled, so shouldn't be long before it tops out.

Finally seeing large amounts of glass going up on this one. Looks similar to the glass on Soliel and Infinity, which I think is a bit of a bummer personally, as I was hoping for a clearer glass. Maybe it will look better when finished and the inside is lit up (and the windows get a good clean).

The blade fixing detail is what they should have used at Soleil.

+1. I'm glad we're getting some dark towers, though. Brisbane desperately needed some, and they look great up here (in both sunny and overcast conditions).
