He was dragged out of his badly damaged vehicle at approximately 10.46 a.m. and slammed into a waiting police transport which sped off to an unknown destination. It is not clear why Dr Besigye who was not walking was accosted by the armed men. Security personnel are fighting running battles with civilians in the Mulago-Wandegeya area. Scores have been injured.

Dr Besigye appears to have sustained injuries in the melee which also left one of his aides bleeding profusely from a head wound.

International media and observers from foreign missions on the scene were seen capturing the events as they unfolded.

Museveni needs to put a bullet in Besigye's head.

Besigye is a psychopath and would be another Idi Amin.

I don't agree with you. That would put Uganda along a path that no sane Ugandan would want to follow.

I personally don't think Kony is the only one committing atrocities in that region. I think it goes both ways. The UPDF has blood on its hands not just within UG, but also in South Sudan & Congo. The stories & evidence are there. You just have to sift through the rumors and come to a conclusion.

You have to remember M7 didn't come into power through the ballot box, but rather through the gun. He consistently thwarts any rebelling elements to keep the status quo.If I remember correctly, he was once asked on the prospects of Uganda enacting the same political changes as seen in East Africa recently.... His answer was: "Uganda is not Kenya. This government was built by fighters" (an obvious reference to his militia days). He reminds me of former Kenyan president Moi. He gave the illusion of choice, but in the back room, he was busy derailing any dissent.

When I think about it, Uganda is not much different from Somalia. Both countries enjoy a vibrant political base, but the chances of success are greatly diminished by the ruling arm and militia based warmongers.

President of Uganda visits Thailand

BANGKOK, Nov 14 – Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will officially visit Thailand Thursday through Saturday to enhance the cordial relations already existing between the two nations.

A welcoming ceremony will be held at Government House Friday, when Mr Museveni is scheduled to meet with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra for bilateral talks.

Topics of discussion will include varied mutual and regional issues, especially trade, investment and technical cooperation. Ms Yingluck will host a welcoming dinner to honour the president and his delegation at the Santi Maitri Building. During his visit, Mr Museveni and a group of leading Ugandan businesspersons will meet potential Thai investors from various areas.

They will visit major Thai industry facilities to explore mutual trade and investment opportunities. Uganda's leader has visited Thailand twice before -- in 2003 on a private visit and in 2004 to attend the 15th World AIDS Conference. This is the first official visit of a head of state and head of the Government of Uganda since Thailand and Uganda established diplomatic relations in 1985.

The visit reflects the cordial ties existing between the two countries, as well as the importance that Thailand attaches to strengthening its relationship with African countries within the South-South cooperation framework.

It provides an excellent opportunity for Thailand and Uganda to expand cooperation in various areas, both at bilateral and multilateral levels, as well as to promote better understanding at the people-to-people level for the mutual benefit of the two countries. Mr Museveni has been president of Uganda since 1986, having won four elections -- in 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011. (MCOT online news)

Thai private sector welcomed to invest in Uganda

BANGKOK, Nov 16 – Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Thai businessmen to invest in his country, assuring potential investors of his nation’s sufficient supply of raw materials and economic efficiency. He made the overture in a meeting between Thai and Uganda investors, which was jointly organised by the Thai Board of Investment and the Foreign Ministry at a Bangkok hotel on Thursday.

The Ugandan leader said his country welcomed Thai investments in food processing and agricultural industries, adding that Thai investors can also use Uganda as a springboard for business and export opportunities in other eastern African countries. (MCOT online news)
