Just buy a $2 baguette, take it up to the tower, eat, tell your friends you've dined at the ET >>>> Profit.

see that was my suggestion, not necessarily take tha food up there... but eat on tha grounds, whatever... but tha other half suggested it, so i couldn't really shoot down his dreams... *[tick] supportive and loving partner*

so happy to put this under tha obligatory i'm tourist section of tha trip!

nate: i know right... my approach to paris is going to be to try one place in each michelin rating, if we can get a booking!, see what all tha fuss is about... and just eat everything else i see... :p

also, what's a decent, aim and shoot dslr camera? preferably pouched size under $500? if that even exists!

I've been once up the Eiffel, the lines were not that insane, probably an hour or so...

The weird thing was, 3 out of the 5 people I was with, got a "sea sick" sort of feeling, that lasted several hours after we got back down.

Including me - and I am in no way scared of heights. It must have really been swaying that day!

sounds like a tourist trap to me... but you know i'm classy and wanna do what classy b*tches do...
Just book for lunch - way cheaper. The top one has a private entrance right at the base - straight up. Middle one you still have to line up for one of the two lines I can't remember what for.

I arrived at the Eiffel Tower to a line that was at least 3 hours long, with only one lift operational.

Nope.

Just sat at the base and ate an overpriced panini. I regret not choosing the weird hot dog thing they were selling.

At that price point, you wont find a DSLR worth using (Even the entry level Canon DSLR costs somewhere near $500 for the body alone, let alone any lenses and accessories and stuff to go with it)

Best bet is to either save up some more and buy a proper DSLR or just buy a point & shoot. I recommend Canon, I have used Canon Point & Shoot cameras for years and I have family who swear by the Canon DSLRs and has used em to take some awesome shots.

I have a canon powershot s95 (which has since been superseded by the s100) - that was about $400 and is a point-and-shoot but has all the manual functions so you can use it like a dslr

I've got a 6 year old Canon Ixus that's still great that I use sometimes. Also has decent manual options considering its a relatively cheap P&S.

Crave - the s100 really is a great camera.

Don't get an SLR, do you want to be lugging that thing everywhere?

I think the idea of the SX130IS is great.

I once bought a Canon S2 IS and while it was a great camera it was always too big to be a point and shoot and too limited to be a DSLR replacement. It was always either too much or not enough!

The SX series appears to be the same sort of idea (good optics on basic camera) but the reduced size would make it much more convenient to use.

Fat on fat is the best combo. Went to Bivouac last night and I wasn't really impressed either, I had pork belly with cabbage and apple salad, so fat but no fat on it. Should have been good, not sure what Sanj expects, it's not like I could justify complaining of anything, it was just underwhelming. It seems like one of those bland food places like Greenhouse, more for simple eaters who don't like strong flavours maybe.

Someone was commenting on it being broken before, but they've fixed the walkway on the state theatre, I love that building. It's even responding to you walking on it again. Wonder how it got broken? A bit of a problem if it keeps happening.

I really liked bivouac. I went with my wife and I was the only bloke there. We both noticed the high proportion of good looking women there. I agree with you Kelli, the food was good, but not memorable.
