It's sad to see the crosses on Wujiaba's runway, what a legendary airport!

I agree that Changshui will have to prove itself in the long run to receive the five star, having the latest and greatest hardware is the easy part, software is what most Chinese airports lack. OTOH I would say Kunming is one of the more open cities in China as it's a tourism hub, and I very much doubt education is an issue, Yunnan University has one of the best English programs in China, and it has a strong native English speaker faculty.

On Wujiaba, I think it has reached its full capacity and can no longer accommodate further expansions...

Kunming is a tourist hub? I've never heard that. It's located in southwestern China, one of the poorest, least developed parts of China. The major tourist destinations and bases for ex-pats are Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Sanya. Xian probably gets more foreign tourists than Kunming because Xian has the famous terracotta warriors.

The province Yunnan is one of the major tourist destinations among Chinese tourists. Smaller cities like Lijiang (UNESCO Heritage site) or Dali are famous for their beautiful old towns. Besides that Yunnan is also known for it's landscape and it's high number of ethnic groups (second in China).
Kunming as the capital and with central location in Yunnan is indeed a transport hub for tourists.
Why do you think Wujiaba Airport had annually more passengers than the airports of Xi'an and Chongqing? (Only Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu had higher passenger numbers)
