yea it does. By which I mean modest, sensible, attractive modern housing which is done very well in Belgium and Holland and we seem to have forgotten how to do..

The phases increase in density as they go along, and Phase 2 is well underway:

It does look good, the landscaping is great too, compare this to the past and there really is no comparison.

They've done well with the landscaping and the general environs. I haven't shown it in photos, but in front of every apartment block (those ones facing the park), there's a landscaped "valley" with a pond at the bottom. It serves as a beautification device as well a security feature, and has been done nicely. When more hoardings come down, I'll take photos of them.

I'm also grateful that the ethos of town planning in this city doesn't include gated communities. I've been to many cities on several continents, and were a housing scheme like this being built in say Atlanta, the scheme would be gated with no access to the public and no through roads. I'm glad that a development of this kind here would be considered an integrated part of the urban fabric, and not an "island", disconnected and cut-off from the surrounding area.

Demolition continues, but I don't know when it is scheduled to finish.

There are just 2 tower blocks remaining now, a few low/mid rise blocks, and the chimney.

thanks SE9,
I was passing by the other day and saw a couple of cars parked next the one of the remaining tower blocks, which could confirm the stories i've heard that there are still people living at ferrier???

Yep, there's still a few people left.

I'd say that the population of the new development now outnumbers the population of the old estate.

Or is the “royal” badge really just about promoting the council, rather than its communities?
That guy sounds a little misguided. It's just a ceremonial honour reflecting the boroughs royal connections. If anything it's just to help boost tourism to Old Greenwich. Nothing to do with either what the council has done or its communities. The only part of the borough the feels "Royal" is Old Town Greenwich. It's going to be some time before I associate the prefix Royal with the rest of the borough. It would also be a massive waste of resources to go about rebranding every sign that says Greenwich with Royal Greenwich immediately.

SE9 first of all thanks for all the hard work on this thread

Quick question : Do you know if all the future phases have got all the necessary approvals? I am trying to picture how the whole thing will look when the development is finished.

I believe just the last phase is left to be rubber stamped.

They've demolished the last high rise block of the Ferrier, there's none left. The only remaining part of the estate is just 3 low-rise blocks around Telemann Square, the rest is either rubble or under construction.

Meanwhile, the new neighbourhood is taking shape:

This is fantastic. A few taller ones wouldn't go amiss but surely a model for the rest of the city.

They're currently taking down the chimney, the last tall part of the Ferrier to go:
