Well, it was bound to eventually, unless Portsmouths waste disposal crews are absolutely rubbish (pun not intended) then the murderer must have known it would be found.

The chaos from this morning turns out to have been a pedestrian hit by a car and launched onto the banking besides the train tracks. She has died as a result

Florida lifeguard fired for helping drowning man

A lifeguard who left his section of a Florida beach to help save a man from drowning has been given the sack.

Tomas Lopez, 21, was patrolling part of Hallandale Beach north of Miami when he was told that a swimmer was in trouble in an unguarded area of the beach.

"I wasn't going to say no," the lifeguard said.

But his bosses said he had broken company rules and could have put other swimmers at risk. At least two colleagues have resigned in protest.

"We have liability issues and can't go out of the protected area," Susan Ellis of lifeguard provider Jeff Ellis and Associates told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

She added that the stretch of Hallandale Beach that Mr Lopez was supposed to be patrolling on Monday was being protected by other lifeguards who were on the phone to emergency operators at the time.

Mr Lopez, four months in the job, ran some distance to help the swimmer who had already been pulled out of the water by other beachgoers.

He and an off-duty nurse then helped the man until paramedics arrived to take him to hospital. The unidentified swimmer is said to be in intensive care.

Mr Lopez has no regrets about losing his $8.25-an-hour (£5.30; 6.60 euros) job.

"I think it's ridiculous, honestly, that a sign is what separates someone from being safe and not safe," Mr Lopez told CBS television.

A colleague, on finding out that he had been fired, said he radioed his manager to cover the beach for him and promptly quit.

Genes for Breast Size Found

Researchers have identified seven genetic markers linked with a woman's breast size, according to a new study.

While it's was known that breast size is in part heritable, the study is the first to find specific genetic factors that are associated with differences in breast size, the researchers said.

Did no-one have the presence of mind to simply ask the guy what it was rather than call the fucking police? How much economic damage was done because of some panicky dipshit?

Fake cigarette caused M6 police Megabus coach swoop

Passenger Jenny Lister: "Everyone was getting pretty scared"

A fake cigarette prompted armed police to swoop on a coach on the M6 Toll road and close the motorway for more than four hours.

Forty eight passengers on the Megabus Preston to London service were led off the coach and forced to sit apart in a cordon on the opposite carriageway.

The road was closed near Lichfield before police said they were no longer treating the incident as suspicious.

Police said they received a "genuine report" of vapour escaping from a bag.

ZOMG! Vapour escaping from a bag! Call the army! Why didn't they simply ask and if it was properly dodgy just beat him with a stick?

Seeing as it's the M6 Toll, probably absolutely none whatsoever...

A megabus coach on a toll road? That, to me, is the most suspicious part of the story ;P

Why do people in this country insist on heaping so much pressure on sports players / teams?

Islamist Group in Timbuktu Poised To Destroy Rare Centuries-Old Texts on Science and Mathematics

Armed with hammers, pickaxes, and loaded guns, Islamist extremists are tearing down Timbuktu’s ancient shrines, endangering rare texts on science and mathematics.

Documents housed in the shrines include writings about astronomy, the health effects of tobacco, and 3,000-year-old medicine, according to the New Scientist. They are part of Timbuktu’s “matchless collection” of about 300,000 historical Islamic texts, some dating back to the 13th century.

Since last weekend, members of Mali’s Ansar Dine, an Islamist militia with alleged lies to al-Qaida, have destroyed at least eight mausoleums as well as several tombs. They say their actions come at the behest of a “divine order” to eliminate idolatrous monuments, reports Time.

After a coup in March left the country in the midst of a civil war, the Ansar Dine took control of a northern region of Mali. The group aims to impose strict Sharia law across the entire country.

Back in April, Moussa Ag Hamta, a private library owner, told Northern African news site Magharebia that he had begun hiding his collection of scientific texts. “They consider these documents to be a heresy,” he said. “Preserving them is some sort of worship, which contradicts the Islamic Sharia in their opinion.”

Some of the manuscripts may be from the Islamic world’s “Golden Age” of science (750 AD to 1250 AD). “Muslims gave us Arabic numerals, algebra, algorithms, and alchemy; they gave us our names of most of the stars visible to the eye,” said Skeptoid podcast host Brian Dunning on recent episode. “Arab-Islamic doctors furthered the art of surgery, built hospitals, developed pharmacology. ... [T]hey advanced art and architecture beyond what even the mighty Greeks and Romans had begun.”

While U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has criticized the militia’s actions as “totally unjustified,” the Ansar Dine has remained adamant in its cause. Spokesman Sanda Ould Boumam said the group plans to "destroy every mausoleum in the city—all of them, without exception.”

Sharia has to be the most backwards, oppressive ideology of all time.

Surely such devotion to sharia law constitutes idolatry?

I can only think this is what it was like during the puritanical days of mass book burning and stripping down of obscene works of art.

A man who shot dead an Indian student in Greater Manchester has told a court: "Lock me up for 65 years."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ester-18772761

I normally have faith in the British justice system, but if this judge not not give him one fucking heck of a sentence then that will all change.

Some criminals at least fake being remorseful in the hope of getting a lighter sentence. This twunt couldn't even be bothered to do that.

He's putting a show on to try and appear a hard man. The reality will come crashing down when that cell door closes... for 20+ years.
