Eventhough the Nanping Twin Towers look spectacular, I very much doubt that they will ever be built.

The gov plan is serious , the project is certain , the proposal is real.....but there is always a but : the developper is theeee biggest douchebag in the whole universe, they have one project in shanghai of which the first phase have been built 16 freaking years ago, and now they start the second.they have 2 megatall plots in Chongqing, one is this as 630*680, one is at the last part of jiefangbei financial street , which would have 639m, 5 years ago they purchased the land and u know what happened ..........2 or 3 monsters machines sat there quietly , that's all

The changing face of this city ...
Porters lose work as Chongqing modernizes CHONGQING, June 7 (Xinhua) -- For more than two decades, Zhang Guangzhong worked as a self-employed porter in southwest China's Chongqing municipality, carrying luggage, furniture and shopping bags up the city's steep hills in exchange for tips. He searched for work at docks, train stations and department stores, carrying bags for tourists and locals on Chongqing's zigzagging roads and up the stairs of old apartment buildings with no elevators. The job required no training or qualifications to speak of; Zhang's only limitation was how much he could carry on his shoulder using a wooden pole. In his younger days, Zhang said groups of porters were often seen on downtown Chongqing streets, competing to offer their services to tourists and shoppers laden with goods. "I often waited for business at community markets, helping old people carry heavy loads of groceries through the narrow lanes," he said. "There were at least 30 others and we used to compete for potential customers." The laborers were so popular in Chongqing that they became an icon of the city itself in the 1990s. A TV series about the porters' life, produced around 1997 -- the year Chongqing, formerly a part of Sichuan province, was named China's fourth municipality after Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin -- was a hit among Chinese viewers and made the workers famous nationwide. But at the age of 57, Zhang is in danger of losing his livelihood, as few people demand the services of local porters these days. "They all take taxis or drive their own cars," he said. "New apartment buildings are taller than before and are almost always equipped with elevators, so people don't need me to carry their bags." For several years, Zhang was the only porter to stroll the old streets of the downtown Yuzhong district. "My former colleagues are either too old to keep working or have left for other jobs," he said. Twenty years ago, taxis were not yet popular and Chongqing's streets were just narrow lanes, which made them almost impossible to access with motor vehicles. Today, however, the city has a comprehensive transportation system consisting of highways, subways and light railways. Porters have apparently been left out of the city's urbanization drive. With little business in the city center, Zhang has turned to construction sites in the suburbs of Chongqing, pulling carts full of building materials and carrying sacks of waste. "Yesterday I worked until after midnight," he said Thursday. Sometimes, he also helps to build roads and clean public facilities. "Anything that can help me earn a living," he said. When Zhang left his hometown of Guang'an in Sichuan province, located about 150 km from Chongqing, in the late 1970s, he was hoping to find an easy job in the city instead of toiling in the fields of his rural home. But his dream of leisure never came true, and like most other migrants, Zhang found that city life was even tougher without a formal education and technical skills. Working as a porter turned out to be as tiring and tedious, but not necessarily better paid, than toiling on the farms of his hometown. But Zhang still chooses to stay in the city, where "life is far more interesting." "Apparently this job has no future, but I'm proud that I once belonged to a group that was the city's icon," he said. |

China's SDIC invests 30 bln yuan for shale gas in Chongqing
CHONGQING, June 26 (Xinhua) -- The State Development and Investment Corp. (SDIC), China's largest state-owned investment holding company, will invest 30 billion yuan (4.75 billion U.S. dollars) into shale gas exploration and development in the southwest China city of Chongqing. The capital investment will also be used to construct a coal port and national base for emergency coal reserves, according to the strategic cooperative framework agreement signed Tuesday between the company and the Chongqing municipal government. The two sides have also founded a joint venture company for the shale gas project, according to the agreement. Shale gas, a clean and high-efficiency energy resource, is extracted from shale through a complicated process called hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking." China aims to produce 6.5 billion cubic meters of shale gas by 2015. Liu Tienan, head of the National Energy Administration, said Monday that government departments are working to introduce beneficial policies such as tax and fiscal incentives to encourage shale gas development. China's rich reserves of shale gas are estimated at 31 trillion cubic meters, equivalent to the total amount of conventional natural gas. The Sichuan Basin, the Ordos Basin, the Tarim Basin, the Western Hubei-Eastern Chongqing area and the provinces of Guizhou and Hunan boast huge stores of shale gas, a survey by the Ministry of Land and Resources showed. |
