Essentially, signs with down arrows point to the lane you need to get into for the specified destination, while signs with up arrows have each lane represented by an arrow.

This is about 2km from where I grew up in Toongabbie, in western Sydney.

I apologise about the quality of the pic... it was taken from my mobile whilst in my car and it was taken at the biggest zoom level.

However, note that the focal points are the road names and not localities. These are new-ish signs, but the predecessors were exactly the same, dating all the way back to when the roundabout opened around 1980. Apparently it also makes it one of the oldest existing roundabouts in Sydney (a claim made by a family member, and one I haven't verified further as fact).

Interesting sign on the way to Tully Gorge in North Queensland - this road does not lead to Townsville or Cairns

It wasn't there back in Easter holidays when I went to Cairns. Must be new?

^I found that to be a very very common sign on highways and motorways in New Zealand.

Outside of Singapore Changi Airport, they have a sign forest listing of ALL the aeroplane companies that fly to the airport and their respective terminals. Not a bad thing on its own, except this was on the expressway. How is someone going to be able to read and find their airline within all the information at 90km/hr?!

That's how skilled they are at speed reading!

While it technically makes sense (it is their version of the conditional no-standing sign, 'no standing permitted except for buses', etc), it is just that oh my goodness it does create a lot of clutter using the Euro sign format.

A couple of interesting road signs from outback Queensland (I think around Birdsville and Betoota), warning of the dangers of coming over a sand crest and coming face to face with a road train.

Its been there in some form for a long time, i can remember something like it years ago. It is indeed a special and unusual read sign. There is one road to the upper part of the gorge (Tully Gorge Rd) and another to the lower (Cardstone Rd), they are sperated by a few hundred metres. The public cannot get from one to the other. But they are so close together, that many people reading the maps think its a through road. Lots of tourists looking for shortcut. Which I think it should be btw.

heres my contribution to this thread, one at the junction of the Peninsula Developmental Road and Northern Peninsula Road. Its disturbing that the distances are actually wrong.

Heres one just south of the Palmer River Roadhouse on the Mulligan Hwy, i wonder how long it will remain there? and what if someone seen more than one?

The Cape York Highway (Peninsula Developmental Road & Northern Peninsula Road) Upgrade thread features many sign images, and i'll be adding more from the region.
