The area that the Shield was supposed to represent would be Eagle Rock, Atwater Village, Silverlake, Los Feliz....Northeast LA bordering Glendale. at least that was my vibe.

This may sound silly but does the Italian mob have/ever had a control on the city aside from Bugsy Segal. I assume their must have been a bookies here and their but any actual control?

I think the city is partially owned by the Crips and the Mexican Mafia.

Falling Down. Perfectly captures the tension that LA was dealing with during the early 90's. It only makes sense if you were around during that time.

LA Riots in 1992.

The trigger for those riots in 1992 was event that occurred to Rodney King, who was in 1991 brutally beaten by police.

Mr. Rodney King (47) died one month ago.

I think the movie (though awful) portrayed a certain segment of the population in LA that became disenchanted with its constant growth, increasing traffic and a rapid socioethnic change to one favoring diversity. I like these LA movies starting roughly in the 80's and all throughout the 90's because you see one of the most famous cities in the US in flux. You can call them "Paradise Lost" movies and the same theme runs through them be it Falling Down, Boyz In The Hood or Crash. But then again, that theme runs through Sunset Blvd and Whatever Happened To Baby Jane ?which were shot 20-30 years prior.
