That 2011 link doesn't seem to be up date which makes the 2008 list you posted suspect as well. According to the 2 charts, Toronto built a grand total of zero 90m+ buildings between 2008 and 2011. Toronto likely built about 100 buildings over 90 m in that period. I'm not sure how you can qualify them as the 'foremost authority' on anything when they haven't bothered to update some of the cities in 3 years.

There are a number of cities missing from that chart, but the figures look about right.

By "foremost" I meant premier not flawless.

If they're not updating in 3 years, they're not premier either. A premier organization would be updating their lists monthly at the bare minimum. These people are asleep at the wheel and their list is borderline worthless. Half the people on SSC could come up with a better list than them.

I think we have drifted into a semantics sparring session here... By "premier" I mean prominent, high profile... For example, the USA is far from flawless, however, no democracy has a higher profile in the free world...

I do not understand that ranking in the slightest...


Let me get to the biggest problem, why is Bangkok #5 ? The architecture in Bangkok is so bland that I wouldn't put it in the top 20. Shanghai is a bit too high, and Tokyo is also too high. Why is Chicago so low ? I think most would agree it is in the top 3, and definitely the top 5. Manila and Seoul are way too high. Singapore should be in the top 5, or atleast top 10

That was based on having the most number of bldg 100mtrs>up plus other basic factors... Now its abt time to update the worlds ranking... coz its already 2012 the skylines of each city are changing very fast, we really cant tell whos at the top10 now and who will be in the years to come... Here is fierce competition!

btw, Shenzhen looks very massive but except for handful of well-designed towers the rest are not-so-appealing-sort-of-tucky highrises... Guangzhou on the other hand has lots of architecturely-well-designed skyscrapers but less massive than Shenzhen... Comparing their ordinary towers w/ Bangkok, I think Bangkoks' is some slots better...

Personally, Ill stick to that rank until proven wrong by authorized institutions... such as Emporis or???

You keep harping on this perception that most people think Chicago is top 3. That's obviously not the case. That guy could just as easily respond to your list with "I do not understand that ranking in the slightest... Let me get to the biggest problem, why is Chicago #2? It shouldn't be in the top 5. Why is Bangkok so low?"

There is no consensus on skyline ranking no matter how often you try to suggest that there is.

Not bad! I noticed the omission of Australian cities too. I'd put Melbourne around 10th-12th, Sydney 14th, Brisbane 34th. Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Seattle, San Francisco, and Minneapolis all deserve to be above Rotterdam and Berlin, but aren't listed at all.
