So a high valuation because of optimistic view shows PH is not a laggard??? You should read more about stock markets, economics and business. You talk like some big shot executive and tell me a booming stock market indicates the philippine economy as not lagging???

It is really that simple right! Philippines is not a laggard! What if the market moves down?

Philippines outperforms Asian markets in 1H - PSE
By: Krista Angela M. Montealegre, InterAksyon.com
July 10, 2012 10:44 AM

MANILA - Foreigners flocked to the local equities market, as the Philippine Stock Exchange index rose by a fifth, making it Asia’s biggest gainer in the first half of the year.

Preliminary data from the local bourse showed that foreign investors were net buyers of Philippine listed stocks in the amount of P71.12 billion, 382.30 percent higher than the P14.75 billion a year ago.

The PSEi rallied to set all-time highs 19 times to finish at the 5,246.41 level at end-June, 955.20 points higher than its 4,291.21 close the year before.

"Just like our main index, investor confidence in Philippines, Inc. is at an all-time high. What's remarkable is that we have been able to achieve unprecedented growth even in the midst of ongoing uncertainties in the Western hemisphere and a cooling Chinese economy," said Hans Sicat, PSE president and chief executive.

"This is a testament to the effectiveness of the reforms that the country has undertaken, which further contributed to the stable macroeconomic environment," he added.

On July 5, the PSEi rewrote record levels again to reach a new high of 5,369.98. As of July 6, the PSEi has gained 22.7 percent to become the top performing market in Asia, beating bourses in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, India and China, among others.

The combined market capitalization of listed issues in the PSE during the January to June period expanded by 12.8 percent to P10.05 trillion from P8.91 trillion a year ago.

Total value turnover grew by 43.20 percent to P947.73 billion this year from P661.81 billion in 2011. Average daily value turnover stood at P7.64 billion, an increase of 45.5 percent year-on-year.

All sectoral indices rode on the strength of the market and finished in the green with the financials index emerging as the best performer in the first half after advancing by 34.6 percent.

This was followed by the property index at 30.1 percent and holding firms subsector at 28.1 percent. The industrial index rose by 10.8 percent, the services index by 8.8 percent and the mining & oil by 4.8 percent.

"The market's run in the first half has been nothing short of historic, and there's a good chance that we will be able to extend this forward momentum as we anticipate better first half earnings from our listed firms. The latest sovereign credit rating upgrade also provides additional support for future growth so overall, I think we are in a terrific position to keep on improving," Sicat said.

ba't mo kasi pinakita yung mga market caps ng ASEAN markets...nahahalata tuloy na rank 5 out of 6 lang ang Pinas among ASEAN markets. tapos, sasabihin mong hindi laggard? ano raw?

after Ford, another foreign investor says, "bye bye philippines"

Häagen-Dazs, Pillsbury distributor to halt local sales by Sept.

THE LOCAL distribution arm of food giant General Mills, Inc. has decided to leave the country and bring its brands Häagen-Dazs, Pillsbury and Betty Crocker with it due to the “challenging” business environment here.

The decision to close our business in the Philippines was made based on its performance over the years. General Mills’ business in the Philippines has been consistently challenging in all the 12 years that we’ve operated here,” General Mills Philippines said in a statement to BusinessWorld.

“The decision has been made at the highest levels in General Mills after [the] consideration of all options. We simply can no longer sustain our business in the increasingly challenging environment we face,” the company added without elaborating.

By the end of September, General Mills will no longer be taking sales orders for its premium ice cream brand Häagen-Dazs.

Häagen-Dazs cafes in Robinsons Place Manila and SM Mall of Asia already closed their doors last June 30; branches in Shangri-La Plaza and Eastwood City are expected to close by the end of August.

After those dates, Häagen-Dazs products will merely be sold in retail stores until supplies last, General Mills said.

A separate statement on Häagen-Dazs Philippines’ Web site confirmed this announcement.

Only last year, Häagen-Dazs Philippines -- through General Mills subsidiary HD Marketing and Distribution Philippines, Inc. -- said it was eyeing the opening of five to 10 more Häagen-Dazs shops in Metro Manila, primarily through franchising partners, earlier stories said.

In addition, General Mills will also halt the sale of its Gold Medal, Green Giant, Nature Valley, Pillsbury, and Betty Crocker food brands beginning Sept. 1.

General Mills’ exit from the Philippines will result in the dismissal of roughly 60 Filipino employees, the company noted.

It's only 60 people losing their jobs... not much to sulk about. It will be offset by the thousands of newly employed people in other companies.

all those "praise" releases that the philippines will be one of the top economies in the world come 2050 or something...paano mangyayari yun kung umaalis ang mga namumuhunan??

It's a pity that 60 people will lose their job..
IMO - 60 households is significant...

But, my getting back to my first point..

what is the RELEVANCE of the Philippine's economic performance with Haagen Daz?
No specifics were mentioned about the "Challenges" that they had.. why blame it readily to the ECONOMY?

why would you want an "ice cream" company invest in an already saturated market. Ever wondered how many ice cream companies there are in the Philippines already?

how easy of you to blame their decision to the economy...

It's OK that you criticize the economy.. but please DO SO with SENSE..
you are starting to look like a fool here.. seriously.

And those who tend to post negative news and not even think of solutions or even praise all the positive news happening in our country, I keep asking the same question,

What have you done for the development of this country and The Filipino people?

Especially well respected local ice cream makers like Magnolia which to me is much better than Haagen Daz.

It's like saying HK's economy going down when Wendy's closed down. Or that of Israel when Starbucks left.

Philippines posts first net FDI outflow in 9 mths in April
CNBC

MANILA, July 10 (Reuters) - The Philippine central bank on Tuesday released preliminary data on net foreign direct investments (FDIs) in April:

Apr Mar Feb Jan Dec Nov Oct

Net FDI (in $ mln) -13 14 58 778 43 366 71

KEY POINTS:

* The net outflow in April can be attributed to investors' wariness over potential spillovers from the euro zone's debt problems, dampening global risk appetite, the central bank said in a statement.

* Equity capital registered a net inflow of $13 million in April, down nearly 44 percent from a year earlier. Net equity capital inflows of $944 million in the first four months of the year surged more than five-fold from last year.
