I recently made a short trip to Satu Mare as it's quite close to Cluj and I've never seen it before. I must say that my expectations were low, maybe because I didn't know much about the city and I don't usually hear much about it, so it surprised me in a good way. It has a very nice, compact, old center with some very beautiful and monumental buildings (like the cathedrals/churches, the Hotel Dacia, the theatre etc.). Also, the central park is very nice, well maintained, it has a variety of plant species and it's full of flowers.
I didn't particularly like the design of the new pedestrian area and I think it's too crowded with urban furniture/monuments and lots of materials (some of arguable quality). However, did like the commie square near the city hall.
