Amarillo Transportation Education Center Vision

Quote:
The project was to design a transportation education center (a trucker school) on Interstate 40 in Amarillo, Texas. Included in the design program is a bio-diesel truck stop, repair facilities, convenience store, and local food diner. The site and its relation to I-40 is unique, in that it must perform at multiple scales: Interstate 40 is a major artery of goods across the United States from Barstow, California to Wilmington, North Carolina, with Amarillo almost midway between the two.

So in Amarillo they are dealing with law suits over the new proposed ball park (I'm kind of confused on what's going on really) but it is kind of moving at a slow speed.

The new Airport terminal is AWESOME and ya....that's about all that's going on.

Great to see Midland making progress! TONS of new oil discovered in the Permian basin could rev up Midland and hopefully Odessa after 30 years of dragging along...

New 'Luxury Affordable' Apartments Coming To Midland

http://www.cbs7kosa.com/news/details.asp?ID=32468

Quote:
Midland, Texas - The cost of housing in west Texas continues to rise. For many people affordable housing is hard to find. According to rent.com, the range in rent costs in Midland goes from $574 to a staggering $2,880 a month. That has the average renter paying around $1200 a month.

Odessa is seeing higher prices as well, ranging from $300 to $1700 a month with an average of a $1,000 a month. And these prices are only for units that are available. Many apartment complexes have no vacancy and the cost of renting or buying a home is out of the range of many people. But an exciting new apartment complex is soon coming to downtown Midland that could bring some relief.

The Brownstones Apartments will be located at the corner of Marienfeld and Front Street right in downtown.

Odessa To Get Major Shopping Center Development

This development was proposed in 2010 but has been in limbo over additional funding sought by the developer: http://permianbasin360.com/fulltext/?nxd_id=63415. Hopefully it can get underway in not too long as the region returns to economic health...

Collin Sewell

Quote:
It may be a large, dusty lot now, but Collin Sewell wants his planned Parks Legado Town Center to serve as a gateway to those coming to Odessa for the first time or people coming home.

“Off on the horizon you can see this glimmering shine of light,” Sewell said of travelers turning onto Highway 191 after landing at Midland International Airport. “It will be their first impression of what they see in Odessa.”

Sewell has big plans for the multi-use development that his Sewell Family of Companies is putting together on 68 acres. It will take up most of the space along Highway 191 between Billy Hext and Faudree roads.

Eventually, he’d like it to encompass 68 acres, with 700,000 square feet of space for everything from shops to multi-story, multi-family residential areas.

It will also employ around 100 people during construction and between 100 and 200 full-time and part-time workers once complete, Sewell said.

The streets would be lined with trees and water displays, Sewell said. The development would include a children’s play area and a jogging trail circling the property.

“It’s almost like a mini-city,” Sewell said. “Some people live there. Some people work there.”

Marwan Khoury, city of Odessa planning director, said people could sustain a living just within the project.

“This is big,” he said. “If it happens, it would be one of the biggest projects in the city of Odessa.”

Spaceport Midland

XCOR Aerospace Announces Midland, Texas, R&D Headquarters

Quote:
XCOR Aerospace and the Midland Development Corporation announced the establishment of a research and development headquarters in Midland, Texas, according to a press release issued jointly by the two entities.

What the research and development headquarters consists of

According to the XCOR/MDC announcement, the research and development headquarters will be located in a newly renovated hanger at Midland International Airport with 60,000 square feet of space. The facility will include offices and a test facility. The conversion of the hanger is scheduled to commence in early 2013, to be completed in the Autumn of 2013.

Why Midland, Texas, was chosen

The announcement stated that XCOR's technical and operation requirements were met. The announcement also cited the business-friendly climate in Texas, a predictable regulatory environment, and tort reform measures in the Lone Star State that caused Midland to be selected after a stiff competition.

Application for a spaceport license made

The city of Midland, according to the announcement, has made an application to the Federal Aviation Administration to designate Midland International Airport as a spaceport. This is necessary to allow XCOR to flight test its Lynx reusable suborbital rocket and any other spacecraft it might develop in the future.

Ah, just give it about 30 years, and it'll be just like Arlington.
