I don't think govt is worried about expert whiners. There are always some whiners whatever govt does - and not only in India - this is a global phenomenon.

The reason for delay is obviously political. Jaypee was clearly aligned with Mayavati. No wonder SP is in no hurry to let Jaypee make money from the expressway. I'm sure there'll be a tussle between Jaypee and govt on the toll rates too.

Too bad big infra projects like this get mired in political wrangling.

why to read too much politics on delay in opening of the expressway. Politics definitely is one of factor but not the only one.

We can fairly assume that

1. Once YE is opened people will speed test on YE and many will use it to test F1 speeds. Govt must make sure such people are booked.
2. I am pretty sure we will see few serious accident on the YE with in weeks because of speeding and govt must also be prepared for such emergencies.

If anything seriously goes wrong govt must be ready for such situations. Report on YE from RITES is one of steps to protect themselves against possible bad media.

Noida-G Noida Expressway is one of most accident prone roads in India. So emergency response system, cameras and security is must before YE is opened rest all can be developed over a period of time.

In 2011, about 900 road accidents were reported in Noida and Greater Noida, which left 450 people dead and more than 600 injured.

Well, I hope you're right and politics is not the major reason for delay.

I'm all for having a safe highway. But if opening of YE is delayed by several months in the name of opening hospitals / trauma centers along it, I'll be hard pressed not to think there's politics behind it.

No doubt India needs to give serious attention to highway safety. We lead the world in highway fatalities - by a wide margin - almost twice of China and four times the US, despite having a much smaller number of cars / buses / trucks! But all that can / should be planned alongside the highway construction, so it doesn't take months to put that in place after the highway is ready. Besides, it's a little odd to wait months to ensure world class safety and security on one expressway and barely pay any attention to those kind of facilities along tens of thousands of KMs of other highways.

Anyway, let's see what happens. Hope things are sorted out and it can be opened on a month or two.

Same question here. Nice to they unofficially opened it already. Hope they get cracking on Agra-Lucknow expressway as well. Western UP is quite rich already, it will become even richer with these two new expressways.

Agra-Lucknow wont happen in this SP term because of EC. Next one and easiest to implement is Upper Ganga Canal Expressway and UP govt must push to get EC as soon as possible so that work can start on ground

The monsoon is chasing us. We are nearing the third toll plaza on the virgin Yamuna Expressway and the dark clouds hovering above are dancing wildly like dervishes in delight. We have left the Formula One stadium far behind but our driver powering an Innova is firmly in a Ferrari state of mind. He is tearing away at high speed to Agra.

Soon drops of rain speckle the windscreen like colourless pimples. And then thick sheets of water come down furiously like liquid silver pellets. For the first time in our journey, the man at the wheel eases on the accelerator. For the next 10 minutes, we move at only 90 kms per hour!

On the 165 kms long Greater Noida-Agra expressway, the maximum speed limit is 100 kmph for cars and 60 kms for heavier vehicles - which seems rather conservative: given the quality of the concrete road the maximum speed for cars should be 120 kmph. At 100 kmph, you can drive from one end to another of the rock-n-roll motorway in two hours flat.

This super highway is not for bald or retreaded tyres. Most accidents on the Pune Expressway are caused by tyre bursts due to overheating in overspeeding vehicles. All along the Yamuna expressway yellow boards warn potential speed devils - "You are under surveillance" -- and that errant drivers will be prosecuted at the next toll plaza.

The inaugural date of the expressway, completed at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore, has not been announced yet. The toll fee too isn't known though it is likely to be around Rs 300, sources say.

First announced in 2001, the expressway reactivated by the Mayawati government in 2007. The project was tough task considering the engineers and the labourers weren't just constructing a six-lane expressway, with another two emergency lanes on the side. There are also six interchanges, 70 vehicular underpasses, 41 minor bridges, 76 cart track underpasses and 183 culverts. In case of a breakdown, there are orange SOS booths all along. And a toll free helpline. Rest rooms are located after every toll plaza but there are no petrol pumps.

The high-speed motorway knifes through five districts --Gautam Budh Nagar, Aligarh, Mayamaya Nagar (erstwhile Hathras), Mathura and Agra. Driving through is looking at a picture postcard of hinterland north India or taking a lightning tour of Uttar Pradesh countryside. Once you are past the Gautam Buddha University with its stupa-like domes on the left, and the red NIIT building and the few other buildings on the right side if you are venturing towards Agra, you drive through wide open space. Barring the odd hamlet and a few scattered houses, much of the adjoining area is sparsely populated. The land is a pleasing green with grazing pastures, paddy fields, mango and neem trees.

But there's a flip side to the tranquility. In a couple of places, drivers are warned about itinerant nilgais. Besides, those living in the vicinity seem to be using the expressway as an all-purpose, open-air recreation centre. Men and women can be seen squatting on the edge of the roads. Cyclists stroll. Some young men can even be seen doing sit ups on the smooth flat surface. Hopefully, such sights won't exist once the speedway opens.

A huge divider, peppered with plenty of plants on way to becoming trees, separate the two sides of the road. The three toll plazas are wide and expansive with 12 booths for toll collection on each side. From the Greater Noida side, the first arrives at 37 kms, the second at 95 kms and the third after 149 kms.

The top layer of the road is quality concrete though one also sees tar in very small patches. What lies beneath the concrete is equally interesting. The lowest layer is earthwork, followed by 50 cms of sub-grade or good soil, then you have a 15 cm thick layer of chips and another 15 cms of drainage layer. On top of it, you have dlc or dry clean concrete 20 cms deep and pqc or pavement quality concrete 32 cms thick. The wheels glide over the concrete as smooth as the proverbial Hema Malini's cheeks. And who doesn't like Hema Malini's cheeks?

यमुना एक्सप्रेस-वे को चालू करने की तैयारी चल रही है। एक्सप्रेस-वे की सुरक्षा को लेकर अब तक कोई खाका तैयार नहीं हुआ है। ग्रेटर नोएडा से आगरा के बीच तीन टोल प्लाजा का निर्माण किया गया है। टोल प्लाजा की सुरक्षा की जिम्मेदारी फिलहाल कंस्ट्रक्शन कंपनी की है। टोल प्लाजा के साथ पूरे एक्सप्रेस-वे की सुरक्षा को लेकर खाका तैयार किया जा रहा है। एक्सप्रेस-वे की सुरक्षा का जिम्मा पुलिस के हाथ रहेगा या फिर कंपनी के निजी सुरक्षा गार्ड पर, इस पर फैसला नहीं हो पाया है। एक्सप्रेस-वे पर दुर्घटना होने पर पुलिस ही इस मामले में कोई कार्रवाई कर सकती है। एक्सप्रेस-वे पर चढ़ने के लिए नोएडा व आगरा के बीच सिर्फ तीन स्थान हैं। ग्रेटर नोएडा से लेकर जेवर तक यमुना एक्सप्रेस-वे पर चार थानों की सीमा पड़ती है। रबूपुरा थाना क्षेत्र में अगर घटना होती है तो रबूपुरा पुलिस को एक्सप्रेस-वे पर जाने के लिए जेवर व ग्रेटर नोएडा जाना पड़ेगा। ऐसे में एक्सप्रेस-वे की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को किस तरह मजबूत किया जाए? इस पर शासन स्तर पर होने वाली बैठक में लिया जाएगा। सूत्रों का कहना है कि ग्रेटर नोएडा से आगरा के बीच तीन नए थानों के गठन पर भी विचार चल रहा है। तीनों थाने टोल प्लाजा के पास बनाने का विचार है। इससे पुलिस को सुरक्षा व्यवस्था संभालने में परेशानी नहीं होगी। साथ ही पांच जिलों की पुलिस के बीच सीमा विवाद का भी मामला सामने नहीं आएगा। वहीं इसके लिए एक्सप्रेस-वे के लिए अलग से सुरक्षा बल गठित करने पर भी चर्चा चल रही है। जानकारों का कहना है कि अलग से सुरक्षा बल गठन करने पर भी समस्या का हल नहीं निकलेगा। हादसा या वारदात होने पर मामला बिना पुलिस के नहीं निबट सकता है।

They also need to construct three state of the art swanky bus terminals: one in Noida, one midway between Noida and Agra and one at Agra itself. Expressways must have swanky bus terminals to go along with them.

यमुना एक्सप्रेस-वे पर हादसे न हों, इसके लिए कई तरह के इंतजाम किए गए हैं। पूरे एक्सप्रेस-वे के दोनों और तार से फेंसिंग की गई है। इससे जंगली जानवर एक्सप्रेस-वे पर नहीं आ सकेंगे। इसके अलावा, एक्सप्रेस-वे पर कहीं भी अवैध कट नहीं हैं। केवल इंटरचेंज और एंट्री पॉइंट्स से ही एक्सप्रेस-वे पर चढ़ा-उतरा जा सकेगा। एक्सप्रेस-वे पर भैंसा बुग्गी, जुगाड़, साइकल, ऑटो, बैलगाड़ी, रिक्शा आदि नही चल सकेंगे। एक्सप्रेस वे पर जगह-जगह मैकेनिक क्रेन के साथ उपलब्ध रहेंगे, जिन्हें गाड़ी खराब होने की स्थिति में कॉल करके बुलाया जा सकेगा।

Uttar Pradesh government will add 1,000 new buses to the state road transport corporation fleet besides hiring 1,500 buses on contract basis, state transport minister Manpal Singh said today.

A total of 1,000 new buses would be purchased for the UPSRTC out of which 100 buses will ply on Noida-Agra route via Yamuna Expressway once it is open to public, the minister told reporters here.

Smart card-based driving licences would be introduced in the state from September, Singh said, adding in the first phase the scheme will be implemented in Agra, Kanpur and Meerut.

In Noida and Ghaziabad, smart card-based driving licences would be introduced in December, he said.

यमुना एक्सप्रेस-वे पर रेस लगाते समय बाइक सवार असंतुलित होकर डिवाइडर से टकरा गए। हादसे में दोनों को गंभीर चोटें आयीं हैं। मोबाइल एम्बुलेंस ने दोनों को आगरा भर्ती कराया है।

घटनाक्रम के अनुसार, शुक्रवार अपरान्ह 4.30 बजे चार युवक बाइक लेकर कुबेरपुर से यमुना एक्सप्रेस-वे पर चढ़ गए। खंदौली तक रेस करने लगे। जब वह खंदौली से वापस लौट रहे थे, तो युवक फिल्मी अंदाज में दोनों बाइकों से फर्राटे भरने लगे। कुबेरपुर के नजदीक आते ही एक बाइक पर सवार अजय पुत्र मुन्नालाल और योगेन्द्र पुत्र उदयवीर निवासी नगला रामबक्स तो सकुशल निकल गए। लेकिन दूसरी बाइक यामहा यूपी 80 सीपी 9985 मोड़ते समय चल रहा राहुल पुत्र नत्थीलाल निवासी नगला रामबक्स संतुलन खो बैठा और बाइक तेज रफ्तार के साथ डिवाइडर से टकरा गई। हादसे में चालक राहुल और रोहित पुत्र रामकुमार निवासी भागूपुर गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गए। जिसमें रोहित की स्थिति गंभीर बनी हुई है। दुर्घटना की सूचना पर जेपी की राहत टीम तत्काल मौके पर पहुंच गई। दोनों घायलों को आगरा अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया है।
