He might well do but you can't dismiss the fact he went 11 rounds, on top in points, and went with a strong flush hit.

Green was going well, but tired in the last few rounds. He can retire with honour.

Good wins last night for Billy Dib and Danny Geale, in valid IBF title fights as well.

WBA, WBA and IBF are the only ones that I rate, and I wish even they were 1 body. The sanctioning mess is one of the worst things to happen to boxing.

Big boxing event happening in Brisbane on the 18th March at Doomben racecourse, Alex Leapai vs Kevin Johnson, with Solomon Haumono fighting on the undercard.

I was interested to read recently about Joe Frazier fighting Jimmy Ellis in Melbourne, I always knew they had fought here in the mid 70's, but I didn't realise it was at the Junction Oval in St Kilda.

Sadly Alex Leapai lost by TKO to Kevin Johnson in the 9th. I didn't get to see the fight, and it hasn't had much media coverage, but apparantly the big American was pretty good for the win.

I wonder how they hosted it at Doomben racecourse, it seems an odd place to stage a fight, only 1 grandstand. They should have had it at the convention centre or entertainment centre, even the tennis centre would have been more suitable.

Mundine wins US debut

Anthony Mundine stopped Bronco McKart in the seventh round of his debut fight on US soil on Sunday (AEST).

Mundine was in control from the outset, controlling the pace of the fight over the first six rounds before knocking McKart to the canvas on three occasions with vicious uppercuts in the seventh round prompting the American's corner to throw in the towel.

Mundine, who was described by American commentators as 'the David Beckham of rugby', had started to gain the edge in the fifth round when he landed a serious body shot which sent McKart reeling into the ropes.

Heavyweight legend Larry Holmes, who was commentating in place of the advertised Mike Tyson, was only partly impressed with 'The Man'.

"He's a good fighter, but what he's doing is all wrong ... That macho attitude will get him into trouble," Holmes said.

"He can fight, but he takes breaks."

The 37-year-old Mundine hopes this foray into the American market will eventually culminate in a bout with unbeaten pound-for-pound superstar Floyd Mayweather Junior.

Mayweather's father, Floyd Mayweather Sr, was at ringside in Las Vegas and said Mundine's chances of facing his son "are probably slim to none", adding: "Floyd's the man to meet if you want to get beat."

Mundine said he hopes to fight Mexican WBC light middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez or future hall of famer Miguel Cotto as his step up to Mayweather but both men have fights lined up.

Alvarez is defending his title against Josesito Lopez on September 15 and Cotto is expected to rematch Mayweather before the end of the year.

Khan shocked
Mundine's performance was overshadowed by another fight taking place a few miles down the road in in Vegas, where Britain's WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan was stopped in four rounds in a big upset by unbeaten American Danny Garcia.

Khan, who was being lined up to meet Mayweather in a welterweight bout in 2013, was knocked down by a flush left hook in the third round.

The Englishman was felled twice more in the fourth round before the referee stopped the bout.

Garcia, who came into the bout as the WBC champion, adds the WBA and Ring Magazine to his collection, and will now be regarded as the number one in the 140lb division.

Impressive win by Mundine, Bronco McKart was a household name in the US and at 41 was at the peak of his career!

I assume you are being sarcastic there brisbanite, Bronco McKart is more than 10 years past his career peak and over 5 since he fought (and lost to) a big name fighter.

Another over age ex-name for Mundine to claim a win over.

Why do people "apologise" when they don't mean it and couch it in terms so they really aren't apologising? It is either "I am sorry if people took offence for what I said" and not "I am sorry for what I said". i.e. making it the fault of the person being insulted rather than themselves. The other option is to do what Mundine did and say "I am sorry people against me twisted my words" (paraphrasing - see below)

In short - he is a joke and so is his "apology"

Mundine apologises for 9 11 remarks
Updated: 18:38, Friday July 13, 2012

Anthony Mundine has made a public apology in the United States for heartache caused by his comments about 9/11.

Mundine, who will have his first fight in America on Sunday (AEST) against former WBO light middleweight champion Bronco McKart, used the pre-fight media conference in Las Vegas to say sorry for the remarks he made almost 11 years ago.

'I just wanted to clarify something that happened a decade or so ago about my comments on America, which wasn't directed at the American people,' Mundine said.

'Firstly, I would like to say I'm sorry for all the heartache I caused to the loved ones of those lost on September 11.

'I'm sorry that people still have sisters, daughters, sons, fathers and mothers still abroad and in dangerous situations every day.

'No good ever comes out of war - only misery.'

'It exposes innocent lives to danger unnecessarily.

'I'm also sorry that what I said was manipulated out of context by the media and journos doing their best to tarnish my image, trying to portray me as a bad human being, rather than associate the Mundine name with peace, charity, community and love.'

Mundine was quoted in October 2001 as saying of the 9/11 attacks on New York's twin towers: 'They call it an act of terrorism, but if you can understand religion, and our way of life, it's not about terrorism. It's about fighting for God's law, and America's brought it upon themselves.'

He was heckled about it while training in a Las Vegas gym this week.

Speaking to AAP after the media conference on Thursday (Friday AEST), Mundine said he felt better for clearing the air publicly.

'I got a lot of things off my chest that I wanted to get off and I feel a lot better now and it was good that I done it here on their soil,' Mundine said.

A Korean War veteran who attended the media conference thanked Mundine for his words.

'I think I can probably speak for a lot of Americans - we were waiting for you to make a comment like that - and I sincerely, sincerely appreciate it,' the veteran said.

McKart said he also appreciated Mundine's words.

Terrific win for Daniel Geale this morning beating Felix Sturm in Germany. I thought he'd have to win by a knock-out, but he got a split points decision. He now has both the IBF and WBA versions of the Middleweight title.

He's a star, beating Sturm in his own backyard is a great feat and is the 1st Aussie-born boxer to unite the 2 titles.

How pathetic are the World Boxing Authorities, they have stripped Geale of his WBA belt due to him fighting Mundine instead of a mandatory challenger in Golovkin. They gave him 4 and half months instaed of the usual 9 months which Sturn took. It's just pure bureaucracy at it's best!

I still can't believe Mundine was given the decision on their first fight, I've watched the replay a couple of times since and some knew where their bread was buttered. Geale was easily better than him on the night and can't wait until he blows the mouth away next fight.

Good win for Danny Green. I watched it at the local pub along with quite a few others. Danny is popular. I thought Cameron would win by knockout, but Green was busier and deserved the win.
