Borneo is part of 3 countries today: Indonesia occupies 3 quarters of the southern parts, Malaysia in the north coast, and Brunei with 2 small strips of land in between Malaysia.

North Borneo is now the state of Sabah in Malaysia. It joined Malaya to form Malaysia along with Sarawak (in Borneo too) and Singapore in 1963. All were former British Colonies. In 1965, Singapore was expelled from Malaysia.

You should visit it someday, it is the nature state of Malaysia along with Sarawak. Mt. Kinabalu, the state's icon, is the 2nd highest peak in Southeast Asia. It's capital Kota Kinabalu (formerly Jesselton) is a medium-sized city with an international airport. Where are you from?

I bet you have never heard of this city but it is the hometown of Recep T. Erdoğan and the place of Bal (Honey) movie who was the candidate of Oscar 2010 and winning Golden Bear.
