Quite.

I think the guy has probably got the message by now.

Unfortunately, I think that because these days the London constructions forums are so beset by persistent trolls and spammers - who never seem to get the message - it leads to some of us overreacting a little when a genuine ingénue pops their head above the parapet.

Will and Medo need to be encouraged back to the London Forums. Maybe we could give Will a carbon credit every time he posts here?

The hoarding got made a lot swankier and sexier about three weeks ago, at the southern end of the site there's an inset section on the corner like a diorama complete with topiary bushes in pots... they were erecting this just as I passed on the bus.

Meagre progress, but progress nevertheless

Good to hear, am I the only one who had totally forgotten about this amidst the shard/20FC/122L etc action?

Even in the shorter form, this tower is stunning.

There is some kind of construction work going on in the Northeast corner of the site. Might be some kind of showroom - looked like glass panels - but only got a brief look as I passed by. Quite a few people milling around the site though.

Yeah, some portacabin type affairs have sprung up... I'd assume they're more likely site offices than showrooms

So *something* is happening...

Should we assume therefore that the proposed changes to the building have been accepted and that site preparation/piling is to begin shortly?

The application only went in recently so your looking at around 3months at the earliest before a decision is made. They are busy working away on half a dozen Thames side schemes at the moment but with this it isn’t a case of if it will be built but when. Once it gains approval they will be keen to get cracking BUT Berkley homes have always indicated they wouldn’t start this fully until next year so we will probably have to wait a few more months before it really kicks off.

Approval has been granted for the tower!

Quote:
Southwark council last night approved the Ian Simpson-designed project which is being brought forward by Berkeley's St George division.

The scheme is spread across three buildings - a 50-storey 274-home tower, a six-storey 152-room hotel called the Rennie Street building and a four-storey retail block called the Podium Building.

The 1 Blackfriars tower building includes a community viewing gallery on the 32nd floor.

I read that work should start late next year. Why so long? I thought the site was cleared and all set to go.

They probably want to finish St George's tower first in Vauxhall.

Bloody hideous tower from the pen of Simpson. Perhaps it will get an improved makeover and not look like the glass hunchback of Southwark
