Vintage Kansas City - when the city was wide open.

Train incline from Downtown to the West Bottoms Stockyard District The incline was so steep that it was common knowledge that you took your life into your own hands if you rode it. 1960... all of the elevated trains in the West Bottoms had been torn out. There's a huge freeway that destroyed the north side of downtown (left side of pic) and the incline train is still in place but not in use any longer and will soon be dismantled. It seems almost impossible to get the downtown, crown center and plaza skyline all in one big panoramic picture. Would be an amazing pic if it ever does happen.

I've never been to KC (drove past it on the interstate in '86) but from the looks of it, I think I'd like it. I really like cities this size and the clustering of buildings downtown looks nearly perfect.
Where are all of the fountains that folks always talk about? |
