Question is why are long term forumers fighting in that discussions thread?
I think most forumers here are old enough and should know when to draw the line and retreat from a discussion going bad. |

I feel that no discussions or arguments should be allowed in sector specific threads. They should be allowed only in Discussion Forums / Chai Bar.
Otherwise all the information / news get hidden in the huge trash in the name of arguments. Sometimes in the heat of the moment, even senior & matured forumers cross the Lakshman Rekha. I request them to delete those posts immediately after venting their anger so that follow up posts by supporters / opposers can be avoided. |

You may use @ (subject name) and then discuss in the respective state / city chaibar.
We in SSC (esp Kerala, TN , Bangalore & sometimes in Mumbai & Delhi also ) tend to argue in fact endlessly on trivial points. SSC is being referred by many who seek information and SSC is generally displayed in Google Search First page. If a subject warrants a separate thread, we may discuss the topic there with real information (Just not ego clash arguments). |

I think a lot of senior forumers know the border line and they don't cross it. But to my point, I just feel it would be rather inconvenient because this will warrant for a number of threads. Secondly, I would rather see this as an inconvenient way to go back and forth rather than having the subject matter following the general thread.

@ bhargavsura:
If you see the trend, any topic is live only for a day or two except those on some infra projects. We generally move on to the next issue. For eg In The News Thread. Probably you may not know. I have deleted dozens / scores of pages (each having 10 to 20 posts) posted in a day in one thread- many times just because they were trash / arguments. Waste of Time & Energy. |

But then it becomes pointless to be honest and takes away the main enthusiasm of discussion while following a thread.

To add to what Kannan said, just provide a link in the original thread leading to your reply in the local discussion thread. If someone wants to follow that OT discussion, the link will show them the path. Why stink up the thread for someone who's interested in the project or its updates? People should take the initiative and redirect the conversation to the local discussion thread whenever a discussion starts veering OT. Props to the ones who currently do that.
Another issue that needs attention is this "+1" and one word/post business which just reduces the quality of a thread. If you've got something worthwhile to contribute then please do that. Trust me, the forum/thread won't die if you don't grace it with your presence. There's absolutely no obligation or legal binding to post. |

IU, the problem is not about posting in Chaibar or not. The problem is that I would rather just remain in the same thread and enjoy the discussion. Trust me, there are lot of good posters here with lot of technical knowledge and background. So I would not want to take the interest away by going into the Chaibar (which is more of a "fun forum" and sometimes there are good discussions over there as well). However, to my point, most of them know the limit and there are some who take things personally and too seriously to start derailing the threads. Such posts should be deleted. However, I know it would be too much work from your end (as all you guys are already busy with your own life but still doing a marvelous job of keeping the threads clean and up-to-date and thanks for that). But it would still amount to same work if the threads in Chaibar get derailed.
But that being said, it is a good initiative and not many people are bound to go to Chaibar since not many follow it on a regular basis. Most of them are interested in posts in the regular threads, especially people who follow a particular region more often then Chaibar. That I agree with. +1 and single comment posts should be controlled.

I understand the IU's point....Till the time discussion is on the topic and knowledgable its fine however, when the bakwaas starts that all should be directed to some other thread in Chaibar or reported to Mods...
cheers |
