LEICESTER | St. Georges Tower

St. Georges Tower
Height: 82m (approx.)
Floors: 20
Status: Complete

I was just wondering if anyone would rate this anything higher than 1. It is hideous and this is just after the redevelopement. A lovely royal blue paint work with bright multicoloured windows. This is how not to do it. Please rate how you really feel. The first picture is how it was expected to look:

This is how it really looks:

I gave it 2 cos its a cheeky little b*stard and its unmissable in its bold statement of, er, blueness.

and I enjoy going past on the train from sheffield to london and thanking god we don't have anything like that in our little town.

I can safely say that is the most eye-catching building I've ever seen.

But not in a good way.

How did they ever get permission to do that? I just feel like giving the entire population of Leicester a big of sympathy.

It has a nice name and a decent height, but when you think of what has been done to other post war office buildings such as the Rotunda, CIS and Quayside you realise how bad this refurb has been.

3/10

They should not be able to do that, it was meant to be white with blue cladding, but no its blue, and its not even light blue.

Fucking hurendous

The last time I visited Leicester I thought it looked a bit grey to be honest. This is bright and colourful, I kinda like it and I'm going to give it a 6.

St Georges Tower in it's heyday. It was a solid bulky brutalist tower planned in London by central government for the then GPO.

I love it . I just hope the developer or owner see's sense and steam cleans that blue muck off and returns it too grey or reclads it, as was originally intended.

not the best of buildings but it's not too bad when the weather is perfect.

I still maintain that the offices should be Leicester IKEA, with the large blue mass of the tower used for a large IKEA logo. It would break up the monotony.

It looks even worse in the sun - almost like lego. Yeah, similar to Leeds then.

5/10, don't actually mind it.

it looks worse now. the main blue on the tower is just paint... what do you think happens to paint when exposed to the elements 80 metres up this is probably one of the most mocked reclads out of all the reclads done over the last decade as it's barely a reclad.
