....hey guys, lets keep it in good spirits. After all, if we hadn't got so many new developments coming to fruition, then we would not need new threads. I do think we tend to bunch all sorts of developments into one thread when they should have their own.

Personally, I love it when I open the Leeds forum and see a load of new posts on different threads to read. Maybe its just the sado that I am!!

This was what I was hinting at I don't think a Merrion Centre sub forum with individual threads for each project is really necessary when the dedicated Merrion Centre thread is only 20 pages long.

Come on, enough of this pointless bickering and offensive posts, lets stick to positive discussion. In my view it's fine to have a seperate thread for something which is a seperable portion of an overall longer term development.

It is indeed fine. But it does seem a bit pointless when in reality it's such a small development. And a development that only consists of a car park refurb and a few new shop fronts/restaurants..

A new thread for the new build sounds good though, that's only proposed isn't it? So potentially may not happen. So may be good to keep plans and updates for that separate?

Only last week people were talking about social deprivation on the Trinity thread.

Surely it's better to have dedicated threads for each discussion as opposed to having a blur of discussions going on in one thread?

This part of the Merrion Centre is most definitely part of the "Arena Quarter" unlike the rest of the Merrion Centre.

Has anyone seen the scale model of the Merrion centre refurb and Merrion house in the old Shearer's unit? Walked past yesterday but didn't go inside.

sort of agree with thread.... just. Crap title though. Should be Merrion Centre North/ North East Redevelopment or something. It's more than just the car park.

The new extension is on the North side of Merrion House occupying the pit-like area. For some reason I was expecting it on the South side, over the shopping centre.

Anyone be kind enough to photo this model?
Does it show any re-cladding of the existing tower?

Here you go. You can't tell anything about the cladding from the models - even Wade House looks good.

Should this not be under the Merrion Centre thread? The OP of this thread will be most upset people aren't following his orders and only posting car park news.

I like the model photos though, wonder if/when they'll get on site for it

Many thanks for the photos- very exciting.

Whilst it's most likely not a true representation of what we'll end up with, it does at least suggest a total reclad of the existing tower - and perhaps even a glass wall up the whole thing?...

Interesting to see the plans for the extension too...
Wonder if this is a masterplan and suggests Wade House could be next?

The master plan in action here is the councils one to consolidate its staff into just four locations

Sorry yes, but I wondered if the model has been made to reflect both this, and the longer term ambitions for the Merrion - ie perhaps future development of Wade House...

It's difficult to tell. The model does look pretty conceptual but Merrion looks completely different to how it does now. But Wade House has a similar 'wall of glass' appearance

It looks promising but cautious to say much more at this stage!

They seem like very pointless renders in this day and age. Far too abstract to really know what's being planned.
