There are two different proposed floor plans for the 1st level. One is all office/retail and the other is mostly parking (as it is now) with some retail. In both cases, the first and 2nd level facades will be completely removed and replaced with something a bit more pedestrian friendly. As I understand it, the Bank One building will be stripped down to nothing but it's steel frame. and built back up.

We're all just hoping that they use the all office/retail version.. There's enough freakin parking in the area as is...

Yeah -- now I can't wait to see those ugly pseudo gravel covered panels on the two story portion come off. I think that stuff is uglier than the plain old four story building that just came down. Some of the stuff that went up in the 70's was really horrible.

It's like they put in extra effort to make it look like a prison...

After watching the storage facility get torn down, I'm almost a bit sad to see it go. Granted, it was featureless and had really low ceilings, but man that thing was built to last! They've practically had to chew the thing apart, not knock it down.

Ah, the memories. I remember sitting in the car waiting for my ex-wife to get off work. She worked for Bank One cash ops in the basement. That place creeped me out even then.

Buh Bye! The first pic shows the site just seconds before the last section came down. Interestingly, if you look to the right, there's a sign that says: "Arena Banking Center Drive-In". It hasn't been called that for decades.

I posted a few more pix just to show how different the site looks without the building. Also, with the building gone and sun shining thru, you can now see most of the parking area under the building.

2 hours ago, the site received a code violation... for... not having the area unlocked at all times for inspectors.. $215 fine.

I mean, wtf? Are they really supposed to leave this highly dangerous area unlocked 24/7? it's under an order to have it fenced off to keep homeless out for chrissakes!! The dept of code enforcement is just ludicrous sometimes..

Anyhoo, the site has been totally prepped as far as I can tell. No groundbreaking yet.

I witnessed a traffic accident with what looked like at least one fatality on the site about 2 hours ago. A van flipped onto the area where the storage building used to be. Pretty awful, and police and ems arrived immediately.

I didn't stick around or take pix out of respect. I cam't find anything in the news.. Do any of the saavy people here know how to look this incident up?

There were 8 to 10 workers on site today. It looked like they were doing something to a sewer line. They've all cleared out now.

Not terribly significant, but at least there is still work ongoing on site. I've been fearing that the site would be prepped.. then it would sit there.. and sit there.. and sit there.. not the case so far.

Gutting of the interior of the building started today. It's a small crew, and it looks like for now they're just removing false ceilings. insulation etc., but there are dumpsters being filled and work is being done. I took no pix because there just isn't that much to see.

Thanks for taking time to look up close. I drive by daily and haven't noticed much work.

I'm excited for this project more and more because of the impact it will have on watering down the number of homeless people in the area.

I don't expect them to disappear or anything, but when you put that many apartments in one area, there will be more people in the area walking around than just homeless people. There are just more and more hanging around every alley and nook from New York to Washington on the eastside of downtown. It's getting a little ridiculous again. Anyway, I digress.

I don't think work ever really stopped, they just have had very small crews doing work inside the building.

Yesterday and especially this morning, work has picked up. There are about 20 workers onsite today, more than when they were demolishing the warehouse building. Pix below show a before and after of what was done yesterday. It's all pretty minor prep stuff from what I can see, but there's a ton of it..

It looks like most drywall, insulation, false ceilings etc. have been removed, and work has begun on removing electric and plumbing.

No pix. There just isn't much to see from the exterior, but lots of work is being done.

Heavy demolition began inside the structure this morning. Heavy equipment is tearing up the parking areas, and walls and ceilings/floors are being removed. They're trucking out concrete and heavy debris at the rate of several truckloads an hour.

It's pretty neat to see exposed staircases and such, but the dust is so heavy and it's so dark under the building that good pix aren't possible.

Yesterday they finally put some parking meters on all areas of Market to the underpass.. HUGE reduction in homeless today.

People without homes aren't necessarily without cars, and about 20 cars a day with people sleeping in them and around them had adopted Market Street as their designated parking/sleeping area as it was unregulated... It feels much nicer today.

I went ahead and took some pix.. even though it's disappinting that you really can't see the scope of the work being done or get anywhere close to where the work is being done. Very little is visible outside the building.. but they're working their tails off. Pretty exciting.. for me anyway.

Anyhoo, here are some pix taken moments ago.

I thought it'd be fun to update this sequence, taken just a few weeks apart.
