The weather is often pretty good in September, as after the inevitable washout June (and July this year... someone stop the madness!) we get a late 'indian summer'.

I imagine there are fairly regular buses to Inverness from Edinburgh. I don't know where is cheap near Haymarket but if you come to Glasgow on the weekend of the 15th and 16th there is the annual Doors Open Day where you can get tours of buildings that are usually closed to the public, often for free. (but you might have to book in advance for some places.)

Thanks for the reply.

I will be in Edinburgh the first week in September and will visit Glasgow one day that week. So do not have free access to the building. But thanks for your information¡

Ask hotel to go see lake ness and where to eat cheap near there.

Bye

Although I'd recommend the train over the bus for comfort, if the requirement is to keep costs as low as possible, take a look at megabus prices.

The question you ought to be asking is "Is it cold in Scotland?"

To which the answer would be "Yes, all year round!"

Do you have Sou'westers in Spain? If so, bring one of those.

It's a shame you only have one day to visit Glasgow, there is so much to see. I definately recommend you visit the University and Kelvingrove museum in the West End. If you have more time check out the cathedral, necropolis and George Square in the city centre.

Also worth checking out our adorable little subway!

You're cheapening the importance of our ridiculous oversized model railway.

Firstly, hello and welcome / halo agus failte

Generally speaking, September is a changeable month which is rather difficult to predict. It will not be "cold" at this time of the year, but it's not likely to be particularly warm either. It could be a week of terrible rain, or you could strike lucky and arrive during a warm spell with temperatures in the low to mid 20s.

You can take a bus from Edinburgh to Inverness (my home city) which is the city beside Loch Ness. You can go by bus (search CityLink Gold - generally quicker, more comfortable and you get a tea) or you can go by train (search Scotrail). In summer / early Autumn, the bus and train should take between 3 to 3 1/2 hours between Edinburgh and Inverness.

Getting between Inverness and Loch Ness (only a few miles away) is easy, you'll likely be wanting to visit Urquhart Castle on the shores of the loch - the castle is where most Nessie "sightings" occur and is a very important part of Highland history, being a power base for Na Granndaich / The Grants.

I'd recommend a day in Glasgow, with at least three days spent exploring the Highlands with Inverness as your base.

A few suggestions:

I understand friend. The problem is we have 4 days to go around scotland , and Friday September 7th I'll be back to Spain.

And interesting little subway in Glasgow . My idea is visit Inverness one day, another day Glasgow, and Edinburgh . Not have much time

North limitation: nice pics¡ thanks¡ in Spain does not have those views. Only the northern North (Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia, Euskadi ..) you know something?

"Beside" Loch Ness? I think "a few miles up the road from" Loch Ness is more appropriate.

It is a good idea if there is bus stop or train , but people here in the forum says that Edinburgh to Loch Ness must stop in inverness..

Another question friends:

from Inverness to Loch Ness is a long walk ??

I like walking, is healthy! but later I tired

Proper hikers would. Looking at a map it's around 10 miles from the northern tip of Loch Ness to the centre of Inverness.

Loch Ness isn't the most attractive of lochs to visit other than the Loch Ness Monster connection - and Urquhart Castle - the three times I've been I've found it a bit bland what with there being no immediate mountains, compared with the Fort William area and Torridon. It's still all rather mysterious though. The townlet of Fort Augustus at the southern tip of Loch Ness is nice.

Well, relatively speaking. It isn't a horrible place by any means. Much easier to get to.

I understand you. But Loch Ness is a famous lake know in the world and very turistic. Many movies, documentary etc.. speak about this misterious loch.

Loch Ness is very popular from Spain, as the Scottish Castles for example and skirts for men and Whisky you have a good whisky too jeje

bye

You're on the wrong side for the views if you're going to Drumnadrochit / Fort Augustus Butters - you're viewing Stratherrick from that angle, which although beautiful up close (view of loads of sharp little hills, hollows, lochs surrounded by pine forests etc), it isn't a particularly inspiring area from the distance. I would suggest to a visitor Dores / Stratherrick and looking over to Meall Fuar-Mhonaidh and Abriachan.

The view you describe is quite uninspiring, you need the south side of Loch Ness, not the North - also, there's much more to the Highlands than mystery, mist and mountains

Small details like this crofter's bothy in Abriachan beside Inverness

Yes, as a visitor, one doesn't tend to go up the east side of Loch Ness when you've already done lots of driving to get there, or are en route from Fort William to beyond Inverness.

No there isn't. Or if there is, no one cares as it's the mystery, mist and mountains that everyone wants.

Oh, I forgot - tablet.

Indeed they don't, but they should.
