I know we keep talking about virtual interchanges, but the truth is, unless LTA removes the one train per trip rule, it will not be considered by commuters and should therefore not be considered as if it exists or somethin'. I've personally done a virtual interchange transfer before at Esplanade-City Hall, and it's very expensive.
Pardon my ignorance. But what is virtual interchange?

A virtual interchange is one in which two different stations that are within walking distance. The first one was City Hall and Esplanade which are accessible via CityLink Mall and Raffles City SC. The next ones would be Bras Basah and Bencoolen (between CCL and DTL); and Rochor and Jalan Besar (within DTL). I think Raffles Place, Downtown and Marina Bay (NSL, EWL, CCX, DTL, TSL) is considered as well.

The next one should actually be Bukit Panjang (DTL & BPLRT) as these will not be linked. Passengers will have to tap out and tap in again to gain access to the systems. Also on the DTL, Tampines Central and Expo stations will be virtual interchanges with the East West Line stations. No paid linkways here.

Updates from Stevens this morning. C919 has brought in 2 pre installed gantry crane segments on site, one of which was newly installed in the late morning. Excavation towards the east is down to about 2 levels and 1 level at the west.

The first photo shows the new grouting site opposite swiss cottage at the cost of 2 lanes and a bus stop having to be diverted in an S-bend. This is probably where the TBMs from C920 are halted at, while they improve the soil conditions beneath. Further backing up by the fact that the tunnel segments at Newton have been stagnant in tarp for quite a while already, suggesting that the contractor does not have plans to use it any time soon.

I-beams can be seen strutted beneath.

The 2 new cranes at Stevens have been up and functioning since last saturday already. they're currently towering above the excavation points 2 and 3, and will probably facilitate the transportation of soil from the deep excavation up to the surface sometime in the future, something the telescopic dippers have in limit. It would probably be used lift up the TBMs from Newton when it breakthroughs, assuming the base slab is done before they arrive.

Something else I found online, assuming the assembly photo of the TBM was taken at the south site towards Hillview, we'd have our second DTL2 bored tunnel section (CSH-BKP) completed already.
http://www.ceric.net/wonmun2/ksce/KS..._57%28C%29.pdf

The sections to follow up in the tunnel completion would be:
LTI-NEW
BTN-STV
TKK-SAV

Nice, thanks for the documents although none of us here read hangul, I have a very rough idea what the document is about base on the diagrams. Anyway, here is an article on mypaper regarding the Bugis incident.

Despite the recent misfortune at Bugis, I'm glad LTA is still going on with reinstating Rochor Rd. Preliminary preparation works would be carried out from tommorow night with the full reinstatement on Sunday.

Down Town Line Bugis Interchange station is on south east of existing East West line Bugis station. A major challenge of this interchange station is the construction of section of rail tunnel under the existing East-West line Bugis station and part of station is constructed under the busy Beach Road and Victoria Street Mining method was used to complete the construction without affecting the operation of existing station. The part of station under Beach Road and Victoria Street are also constructed using mining method without affecting the road traffic. Currently construction is almost completed and architectural and M&E fit out works are ongoing.

First off, some fresh photos taken this afternoon, which I'll be posting on mrtfreak's behalf again. With this, work can progress on the southern exit in which the diverted road was in the way.

Over at BTN, Alpine are conducting another set of grouting beside the bukit timah underpass, near the adam-farrer junction. A few holes have been created within the canal bed which are probably points for the injection of grouting materials. An SI rig has also gone up today.

We refer to your email of 24 July 2012.

Our Downtown Line 2 contractor encountered localised depression on the road surface along a short stretch of Bukit Timah Road (near the Newton flyover) while carrying out the tunneling works.

As a precaution and to ensure the safety of those using Bukit Timah Road, two lanes were closed for emergency road reurfacing works. Traffic wardens were deployed on site to guide and direct the traffic flow. The resurfaceing works were completed at 5.30am in the following morning and all three lanes have since re-open to traffic.

We thank you for writing in.

Yours sincerely

From the Thomson Line thread, a feedback ltn50 sent to LTA confirms that there has been a cave in along bukit timah road north of newton last sunday due to 'tunneling works', probably the after effects of soil movement since the TBM has passed that area for more than 6 mths already. Asiaone in fact got hold of the news, in which they've just published an article just yesterday.

Be it the intentional act of halting tunneling works, or whether cables and wirings were disrupted somehow during the cave in, the TBMs have passed that sector already and are already opposite swiss cottage (where they are jet grouting soil below the road), which Im guessing already forced the TBMs to be halted even before the cave in. much thanks for the informative and insightful info in any case.

Anyway, I believe C919 is done with tunneling works from BTN-STV. No visuals of tunnel segments at the shaft surface for the past 1-2 weeks. excavation at Stevens is at full swing when i passed by today for lunch. they are also starting the preliminary works of reinstating the road near evans road which was another site selected for grouting.

Continuing south, Promenade has almost completed backfilling the station box. They have just completed surfacing a small section of the southbound road, together with a temporary bus stop, which Im guessing the diversion would take place later on this week.

At Bayfront, the DTL's PSC was empty as of this afternoon. There's 8 LED screens and 4 desktops in total - one of which has been installed and already functioning to prep up the PIS screen at the platform. The others are still in wrapped in cardboard packaging. At the platform, a few workers were on a ladder doing some works with the wiring of the panel above the PSDs.

The pictures will go onto my photobucket album sometime later. meanwhile, STEC at Newton has removed the JGP machine at Newton FC (which was still there yesterday!). I guess the sector is clear for the TBMs from LTI to proceed through, and might perhaps even be the first shaft-breakthrough for DTL2 (if not the one at TKK-SAV).

Might finish the updates on the other 3 stage 1 stations later this week if time permits. cheers ^.^

Circleline4,

I am not the one that wrote to LTA. I got this from a feedback.
