The display boards from June's public consultation on the Hurontario LRT are now online:

http://lrt-mississauga.brampton.ca/E...s/Welcome.aspx

A few notable characteristics of the currently proposed alignment:

  • The line would run on the west side of Hurontario as it passes under the Lakeshore GO tracks, and throughout Port Credit. Access to High Street west of Hurontario would be permanently closed off (you would have to use Ann Street to get to it). They are considering moving the Port Credit GO Station building closer to the LRT stop.
  • Between Port Credit and the QEW, they propose that the line be segregated. This is a step up from previous proposals where it would have operated in mixed traffic.
  • In the City Centre, the BRT will integrate with the LRT along Rathburn Road. The BRT is planned to run in the LRT's median (check the Downtown Mississauga display board for a better idea of how this will be accomplished: http://lrt-mississauga.brampton.ca/E...Board_PIC1.pdf)
  • A couple stops between the 401 and Derry Road could potentially be roughed-in.
  • They are no longer pursuing a Downtown Brampton loop. Instead they will either reduce Main Street in Brampton to one lane in each direction and use the sidewalk space for stops, or they will outright close part of Main Street to other traffic and create a transit mall. In each scenario, the alignment will veer west-northwest to meet up with the GO station. This severely hinders the potential of extending the line to Sandalwood Parkway in the future.

LOL.. I saw myself in those (July 1st) pictures.

Can anyone confirm the attendance at the Square on Canada Day? I heard the announcement say either 30,000 or 130,000.

Pedestrian traffic after the fireworks was just insane. Took me like 40 minutes just to drive from Burnhamthorpe to Rathburn.

This year's official Mississauga Visitor Guide lists 2011's attendance for Canada Day as 120,000. Source: http://guides.seetorontonow.com/i/67325/12

That probably means it's closer to 130,000 this year. However, I think that figure includes everyone who came and went throughout the course of the day (there were many people coming and going). I think the tally of those who stuck around for the fireworks is ultimately somewhere between 30,000 and 130,000.

http://www.mississauga.com/what's%20on/article/1408744--tv-show-shooting-at-celebration-square

Chris Clay | Jul 23, 2012 - 12:22 PM
Celebration Square is popular, no doubt about it.
So popular, in fact, it's been recruited for a television series shoot on Tuesday and Wednesday. The square's fountain will not be available to the public on those two days to accommodate the filming of the television production, XIII: The Series.
The fountain will be reopened to the public on Thursday.
