Used to work near here, and would sometimes go to the circle for lunch, Also watched the last world cup on a big screen put up by the circle.
I like this area, has a buzz about it and the offices surrounding the circle all blended in to create this 'arena'. I like the new design because of its funkyness, it stands out, but to me it does not fit in and has disrupted the consistent look to this space. I feel it will no longer have that 'arena' feel. I guess the whole of London is pretty mis-matched generally so I guess another clash of stone, metal and glass won't really be a big deal. |

Very late to this thread - but very interested to see all the comments and pictures.
Mixed feelings about this one. When I first came to London in the late-80's Broadgate had a real wow-factor to it - so its a bit depressing to see its demise, but not sure whether thats because it signifies apallingly wasteful short-termism in the buildings or just that I can't believe how old I am now. On the other hand, its never been the most welcoming of "public-spaces", none of the individual buildings are particularly stunning and is difficult to navigate. On balance - if they couldn't even be bothered to maintain the greenery that was so impressive back in the day then its hard to mourn its passing. And there's always the chance that we can get rid of that awful Fulcrum sculpure - my least favourite ever piece of public art. As for the new building, its not terrible and could be OK in a different setting, but its going to be a hell of an imposing fortress like block in that location. Appreciate that UBS want a certain type of building to be inside of and that seems to be paramount for the City planning department, but the rest of London has to put up with the outside of the building for decades to come. |

I was hoping you'd get confused and accidentally move it back.

I was on site a few days ago, it was extremely odd, like standing at the bottom of a bomb crater in the centre of London.

Not sure why all the haters for this one. The building is original, bold, strong and modern at its best. UBS are the sole tenant and in a way its bespoke. They need large uninterrupted floor-plates and UBS don't have the need for a skyscraper, but don't worry their maybe another skyscraper coming to BGE

For those of you who work in the City (or are passing through) stop by Broadgate and look at the great model that's been built. It's located on the ground floor on the north side of the square with the lights in it. Stumbled on it earlier on in the week. Here are some quick snaps from my phone. I know someone can do better!

Is it not merely a slightly-larger, differently-clad version of what was there previously?
Any plans to redevelop the rest of Broadgate? It's all a bit "80's"... |

Really can't see the point in having this elaborate facade if it's essentially being swamped by it's surroundings.
Another missed opportunity here to build something slightly taller. |
