Many know the Swedish capital city as one of the greenest ones on the planet, however the second largest city Gothenburg (Göteborg) is not an exception either:

Like in Stockholm, there are many parks and green spaces throughout the city. It is also surrouded by thousands of islands that are scattered in the confluence of the Kattegat and Skagerrak straits of the Baltic sea, forming Gothenburg archipelago.

The city lies on many small hills, and between them green gorges and valleys of 3 small rivers are preserved as city parks and pedestrian/bicycle paths:

Another green parts of the city are "summer gardens" of workers of national companies. These sometimes block great views towards the Old City, and block very precious terrain for development in the city center, but people are very fond of them, so nobody touched them since the end of the communism.

City of Greater Sudbury:

One of the most amazing cities on Earth for revitalizing it's greenery. We've gotten international recognition for it.

As you can see, the city is re-greening it's slag heaps and what you are seeing was once nothing but leftover rocks from the nearby mines. Of course, a lot of works needs to be done, but you can see the amount of progress being done. A lot better then the moonscape that was....
