and still places where much more alcohol is consumes such as Czech republic and USA have much less accident rates than India.
Accidents happen because of non-implementation of rules. prohibition will just cause more illicit business and encourage smuggling. Anyways why talking about this here ? |

Japan visit a new beginning Narendra Modi.
![]() ![]() Chief minister Narendra Modi and the high-level delegation accompanying him concluded their official Japan tour on Friday. The CM has said that the visit would open a new chapter in Gujarat-Japan ties.A farewell function was organised at Kobe on the last day of the delegation’s tour on Friday. The event was hosted by Kobe-Hyogo Prefecture Governor, Toshizo Ido and vice-governor at the Governor House. The CM said that the visit would open new avenues of co-operation between Gujarat and Japan, and take bilateral relations to new heights. The CM said on the occasion that he was overwhelmed by the warmth showed to him during the Japan visit. The chief minister pointed out that similarities between Gujarat and Kobe were not limited to disaster management alone, but extended to development projects in new areas. He also said that Gujarat government would develop a model port city on the lines of Kobe. He also said that Gujarat could achieve wonders by combining its entrepreneurial skill and work culture with Japan’s technology and discipline. He further said that Japan’s expertise in hardware and Gujarat’s talent in software could also be mutually beneficial. The Kobe-Hyogo Prefecture Governor, Toshizo Ido, recalled his visit to Gujarat in 2010. He assured full co-operation to Gujarat in developing a model port on the lines of Kobe, which had also faced a disastrous earthquake in 1995. Earlier in the day, the chief minister took a one-hour boat ride in the bay area to understand the working of Kobe port. The chief minister and the delegation accompanying him wound up the five-day Japan tour and left for Ahmedabad from Osaka on Friday afternoon. They are scheduled to land at Ahmedabad international airport late tonight. During the five-day Japan tour, the chief minister interacted with around 2,000 persons, including top business honchos, key persons in other fields, and seven Japanese ministers at 65 functions. The visits includedmeetings and receptions and covered five cities, viz. Tokyo, Hamamatsu, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe. ![]()

Gujarat is ranked second in total power demand...and by these stats, it should be ranked first among big states (excluding Delhi, Goa, Chandigarh etc.) by per capita power demand. Though MH is ahead of GJ in total demand, it is important to remember that MH has double the population of GJ.
![]() P.S. Guj is ranked 10th by population LINK |

Gujarat ‘gaams’ glittering on diamond power
Forever Electricity Is Shifting Surat’s Units To Villages In Saurashtra LINK More than 5,000 units that cut and polish gems of low value operate from rural areas ![]() Surat/Rajkot: Two years ago, a family issue forced diamond polisher Jatin Nasid (28) to quit his Rs 7,000-a-month job in Surat and return to Abhrampura, a village in Amreli district. Instead of returning to the world’s largest diamond-cutting centre, Nasid started a small unit in his village. While many parts of even urban India went powerless recently, there was a sparkle in many Gujarat villages which are emerging as new outsourcing hubs for the Rs 80,000 crore diamond industry. Scores like Nasid chose to operate from their villages. Statistics show more than half of the total 10,000 units cutting and polishing single-cut gems of low value operte from rural areas, handling about 25% of the total business. There are more workers based in villages, about six lakh, than in Surat which is home to four lakh – mostly from Amreli and around Saurashtra. Diamond workers in Surat are down by two lakh – from over six lakh a decade ago. Dinesh Navadia, president, Surat Diamond Association, says, “Apart from good infrastructure and uninterrupted electricity, diamond business has prospered in villages due to cheaper wages. “ A worker in Surat earns Rs 15 per piece but his counterpart in a village gets less than Rs 8 per piece. Workers are still game because they get to live with families back home and earn additional income from farms.” While the outsourcing process started in 1990s, improving power situation accelerated it in the last five years – clearly the impact of the Jyoti Gram scheme of the Narendra Modi government. “In those days, diamond units were run on generators,” says K K Sharma, former executive director of Indian Diamond Institute (IDI). Devastating floods in Surat in 2006 also prompted diamantaires to de-risk business. “I was the first to start a unit in Abhrampura. Now, there are four units,” says Nasid. Bhupat Patel, chairman of Suratbased Jogani Diamond Exports, has set up three units in Lilia village in Amreli in the past four years. “We have a diamond factory in Surat, but wanted to extend our presence to our hometown,” says Patel. |

If we have to reach the levels of development of those countries we need more industries and for that more electricity. Plus people would consume more power too as they would have better standard of living. Micro waves , ovens dishwashers( ) coffee makers DVD players LCD Xbox computers Electric stoves mobile phone chargers Ipads . Per capita power consumption in Gujarat is about 280W(17,000MW(production) /60 million(population)) Average per capita electric consumption in UK is about 631W. So if Gujarat has to reach the level of developed countries power production should be doubled to at least 34-35,000MW. Gujarat can do it easily with the help of solar capacity addition and a recent announcement of 1000MW gives a sign towards development. Gujarat per capita consumption is more than that of Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra even Delhi and Chandigarh Only Goa consumes more than Gujarat. Under Modis rule Gujarat can easily reach the levels of developed countries at least in terms of Electricity (Correct me if I effed up any calculations )
