Just amazes me how our government continues to ignore the link roads to masai mara yet tourism is the backbone of our economy. How long shall we continue voting leaders who only care about filling their big bellies and have no interests of the people at heart !!! Only God can rescue us ......

The proposed road from Buruburu to Mutindwa Market has stalled. I was there last Saturday and things were looking really bad. I think the hawkers will slowly begin erecting back their trading kiosks with time. Things have remained quiet for a bit of time and no one knows what our friend S.S. Mehta is doing.
I get irked.

Dakta, the self-same S S Mehta is the same one recarpeting the Uthiru-Kamandura section of the Nairobi-Nakuru road. I fear nothing good ever comes of these cowboy contractors.

Not to mention the already 'completed' section between Museum Hill and Uthiru.

What a pigsty, Hawkers should be given designated areas in the city to go sell their things so they don't turn our streets to garbage dumps etc...

Utter nonsense.A lot of areas in Kenya lack development but are not seccessionist.PWANI NI KENYA, if they think otherwise let them pack their bags.

These are the only things I dislike about Kenya. Worst experience last year getting a flat and blown shock absorber in a similar area.

Was the fastest time we ever replaced a shock and tire

It does not surprise me at all, that nothing is ongoing. No local contractor handles works effectively without stopping. They always have a gazillion reasons to do so. JILK, go home!

Another contractor notorious for the behaviour is Victory Construction Company limited. A colleague of mine tells me, they have their very few machines literally 'aging' on a billion contract i.e. Thogoto-Gikambura road. They promise every time to deliver machinery on site but nothing seems to happen. This is not the first time. I have had many many cases with them.

If things are that bad plant a banana!!!!

Quote:
Appalling state of Kenyan roads

It’s a form of road rage. Hundreds of transporters in the Keiyo district went on strike on Thursday, not to demand better wages or shorting working hours, in fact nothing to do with their employers at all. They ‘downed tools’ as our newspaper reporters insist on calling it, to protest at the deplorable state of the roads they are forced to use.

The haulage firms say they lose large amounts of money resulting from the almost daily breakdown of their lorries due to the appalling state of the roads as they transport fluorite minerals to the Flax trading near Eldoret

The transporters contracted to the Kenya Flourspar Mining Company brought the 21km Nyaru road to a standstill with the aid of a convoy of 70 lorries, demanding that the government investigate where the millions of shillings set aside for road’s rehabilitation every year, gets to.

“What we want to know is why the road is in such a bad state year in year out despite the fact that money is always allocated for its repair every year”, said Musa Wendot, ‘spokesperson’ for the transporters.

The fluorite mining in Kerio Valley earns the government considerable amounts of money but it seems hardly any of it has been reinvested in local infrastructure. ‘Unconfirmed reports say some of the money set aside for the rehabilitation of the road might have been misappropriated’, reported The Star. Surely not, says the Kenya Forum.

The Keiyo South district officer Lilian Lagat says the transporters’ grievances will be addressed. We shall see.

DIRECT ACTION – PLANT A BANANA TREE

We can probably all think of 10 examples of neglected important roads that require urgent attention. For this Forum correspondent the Kilimani Ring Road in

Serious subsidence on the Kilimani by-pass

Nairobi, about 100m from where it joins the Argwings Kodhek Road, immediately springs to mind. There’s been an ever widening and deepening set of holes there over recent times that now reduce traffic flow to just one lane. Beside them is another hole into a drain, just big enough to swallow the wheel of a medium-sized salon car. Any sign of Nairobi City Council dashing to the scene?

So perhaps it takes strike action and a convoy of heavy lorries to get action. Or does it?

Residents along the Kisii-Kisumu-Migori road have also run out of patience at the state of the road which had become all but impassable. Did they riot? No. Form a convoy? No.

Following heavy rain and the road as a result a sea of mud, they planted banana plants along the road ‘paralysing’ such traffic as could go along it. A day later construction work began on the road.

“This is the only language the government understands because we can see, work has started immediately”, The Star reported a Mr Ben Mogaka, a local businessmen, saying.

So, banana trees make the government and local councils take action. The Kenya Forum can see new plantations spring up across Kenya overnight!

meanwhile i would like to see the final product of this

I didnt know where to post this??

The World Bank on Thursday approved a Ksh25.2 billion ($300 million) funding to Kenya for upgrading city roads to reduce travel time and costs.

Kenya is expected to develop new mass rapid transport systems to reduce traffic congestion in Nairobi and other major cities under the National Urban Transport Improvement Project (NUTRIP).

This will see the expansion of Uhuru highway and the setting up of a rapid bus transit and commuter rail systems.

The World Bank will invest $300 million in the project, in addition to $113 million from the Kenyan Government.

By helping to ease traffic congestion and develop a modern commuter system, this project will enable Nairobi to remain a great city in which to live and to do business,” said Johannes Zutt, World Bank Country Director for Kenya.

“Developing countries like Colombia, Mexico and Nigeria have embraced mass public transit systems as they transitioned to middle-income status, and it is now time for Kenya to follow their example.” National Metropolitan Transport Authority will be established to coordinate and regulate public transport.

It will recommend policies on pricing and investments, financing equipment and related traffic management systems.

The major components of the project include the expansion and upgrading of highway, service, and access roads from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport through Nairobi to Rironi on the Northern Corridor transport system.

It will also finance the construction of by-passes in Kisumu in Western Kenya and Meru in Eastern Kenya.

The projects will be implemented by agencies working for the Ministries of Roads and Transport, including the Kenya National Highways Authority, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority and the Kenya Railways Corporation.

The A104 section between Ndumboini to Rironi given to the contractor S.S. Mehta Contractors seems like will take a century to complete with the current rate of doing things. We can effectively say that the project is stalled. As Dhuks mentioned earlier on, the same contractor was awarded the section between Nduboini and Museum hill to which he did'his usual thing'. When I passed there the other day, I saw that the relatively new layer added on the section is already showing signs of strain and soon will begin to see cracks, poholes and offcourse the ' SHORTCUT AREAS". Mind you, we are talking about Class 'A' contractor.

Why is S.S Mehta still winning tenders?

@ Dakta ..... you have an eye for details. you remind me of the German detective Derrick that used to air on TV in the 80's .... He would not leave any mystery unsolved. These Kenyan contractors ni mafi ya kuku wote. How I wish they would let Chinese renovate all the roads in the city. Dang It !!! Piece of crap ....
