Rice Terraces

Quote:
BANAUE, Ifugao — The Department of Agriculture is spearheading a National Government initiative to rehabilitate typhoon-damaged portions of the world-famous Banaue Rice Terraces in a bid to restore the agricultural and engineering wonder’s status as a World Heritage Site and a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System. Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, in a meeting with local and National Government officials at the Banaue Hotel last Friday, announced that an initial P30 million will be earmarked for the rehabilitation of portions of the rice terraces that were damaged by recent typhoons. Banaue Rice Terraces, Philippines

Banaue Rice Terraces, Philippines
The terraces in and around Banaue are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
These rice terraces in the mountains were created 2,000 years ago and are still farmed today.

hehe wala akong idea, may restriction ba yung ilang area diyan dahil UNESCO site yan? sana nga magkaroon ng proper zoning kung saan sila pwede magtayo ng bahay at kung saan hindi.

Cordillera rice terraces back in UNESCO heritage list

June 26, 2012 5:38pm

Quote:
The rice terraces in the Cordillera region are no longer in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) List of World Heritage Sites in Danger, a decade after the famous tourist attraction was included in the list as a result of deterioration.

During the 36th session of the World Heritage Committee on Tuesday in St. Petersburg, Russia, the rice terraces were reinstated in the UNESCO World Heritage List by a committee composed of 21 state parties to the World Heritage Convention, according to a statement from the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines.

The criteria for their decision included successful site restoration and conservation, as well as planning and proper management.

“It is indeed a great honor for our country to have the international community recognize our efforts in ensuring the conservation of the rice terraces,” said Virginia A. Miralao, Secretary-General of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines.

I want to go here! Matagal nang plano, hindi matuloy-tuloy...

Kasama po ba ang Rice terraces na ito sa protected ng UNESCO o yung nasa Banaue lang?

Ifugao holds PhilHealth forum
Tuesday, November 13, 2012

BANAUE, Ifugao - In an effort to improve the enrollment, utilization, and claim processes in the various health facilities, the Provincial Health Office in partnership with the Provincial Government, PhilHealth-Ifugao and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) held on Tuesday a dialogue at the Banaue Hotel.

The activity dubbed “Tungtungan para sa PhilHealth” was participated by municipal health workers, partner agencies and the different hospitals in the province.

Dr. Mary Jo Dulawan, health officer, said the activity is needed as the province exerts concerted effort in accelerating various strategies towards the pursuit of improving financing risk protection through PhilHealth program.

“The province has observed that with the current updates on PhilHealth programs, there is a need for all stakeholders to level off with PhilHealth in order to improve the services to all members,” she said.

Dulawan said the activity will ensure the province maximizes the benefit packages being offered by PhilHealth. (Vivencia D. Bulayungan)

Ifugao electric co-op energizes 45 sitios
By Vivencia D. Bulayungan
Wednesday 14th of November 2012

LAGAWE, Ifugao, Nov. 14 (PIA) -- The local electric cooperative here has energized 45 sitios under the government's Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) this year.

Jovita Allaga of the Ifugao Electric Cooperative (Ifelco) Inc. said in the daily radio program “Humangan with PIA,” that the 45 sitios are found in seven towns of Alfonso Lista, Lamut, Asipulo, Kiangan, Lagawe, Hungduan, and Hingyon.

The said sitios previously received power from solar energy but now the households are happy to be connected to the Ifelco power lines.

Funded by the National Electrification Administration (NEA), Allaga said the said program is one of the priority programs of the Aquino administration where all sitios should be energized by year 2015.

Meantime, listeners from Tinoc town whose places are not yet energized sent text messages requesting Allaga to include their sitios/barangays in their list for energization which prompted her to air live the requirements for them to accomplish.

According to Richard Basilio of Sitio Buhyu in Barangay Binoblayan, Tinoc, they need electricity for their business along the provincial road leading to Tinoc where buses stop for passengers to eat. “Passengers usually want something cold to drink but we cannot provide these since we do not have electricity,” Basilio said.

Allaga assured Basilio that they will act on the said request since that is their mandate under the Aquino Administration. (JDP/VDB PIA CAR, Ifugao)
