An Italian industrial designer's futuristic resort is as innovative as it is environmentally conscious. Michele Puzzolante has created realistic plans for a $125 million resort that will have a "five-star hotel" as well as pod-like floating units that can house up to six people.
The resort and units would all be powered by a generator that runs purely on energy created by the sun's rays.

Sound too environmentally ambitious to be true? Puzzolante wrote in the release that there are talks in progress to construct the resort in the Philippines. Puzzolante sent us some renderings of the resort and its units, which you could end up booking soon.

The Official Launch of Tun Razak Exchange, KL International Financial District.

Malaysia launches US$8.2 billion financial hub for Kuala Lumpur
Reuters | KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 | Mon Jul 30, 2012 4:01pm IST

http://www.1mdb.com.my/

Quote:
KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Reuters) - Malaysia launched a new 26 billion ringgit financial centre for Kuala Lumpur on Monday that it said had already attracted more than $1 billion in investment and would boost the country's bid to become a centre for trade and finance.

The creation of the Tun Razak Exchange, named after Prime Minister Najib Razak's father, who was also prime minister, comes after a series of high-profile initial public offerings that have made Kuala Lumpur the most active Asian centre for stock debuts this year.

The hub in Kuala Lumpur, which has the world's biggest Islamic bond market, would create half a million jobs directly and indirectly and was expected to attract more than 100 "top global companies", partly through special tax incentives, the government said.

Najib said over 250 of the world's leading companies would be located at the exchange, creating some 500,000 jobs directly and indirectly by the time the exchange was fully completed.

"We want to have a new business and financial hub that brings in the east and west together. One that can grow both Islamic and conventional finance," said Lodin Wok Kamarrudin, chairman of the board of directors at state-owned strategic development firm 1Malaysia Development Bhd.

The Islamic finance, worth just US$5 billion in 1985, is worth more than US$1 trillion today. Malaysia's Islamic finance sector is already worth over US$400 billion and the booming sector is set to triple in value in the coming decade.

Najib said in a speech that the development had already secured a foreign "strategic investor" that had pledged 3.5 billion ringgit ($1.1 billion) for the project. The identity of the investor and further details will be announced in September.

The project, which spans 70 acres (28 hectares) near the capital's Petronas Twin Towers is part of Malaysia's $444 billion Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) aimed at making the Southeast Asian country a high-income nation by 2020.

The ETP has been criticised by some analysts who say it has lagged in attracting private sector investment and has been over-optimistic in some of its projections. ($1 = 3.1615 ringgit) (Reporting By Yantoultra Ngui; Editing Stuart Grudgings and Robert Birsel)

With its recent liberalisation of the banking and financial sectors, Kuala Lumpur is poised to better compete with Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai in the areas of regional banking, investment banking, fund raising and capital market activities, asset management, insurance, treasury and transactional services, offshore capital markets, securities and brokerage, and Islamic sukuk, finance and takaful.

With a gross development value of more than 26 billion ringgit, this will become Southeast Asia's single largest real estate project launched this year.

Let us all witness the birth of the world's newest international financial district.

OK this is what is rumored and discussed in the local thread as of now. No details are released yet until a further announcement will be made in September 2012.

1. The new name is TRX or Tun Razak Exchange at the KL International Financial District.

2. It is accessible by one of KL's main circular road - Jalan Tun Razak, which shares the same name as TRX.

3. It is located near Bukit Bintang, at the far end of the Pudu/San Peng area, once known as the backyard of Kuala Lumpur due partly to the existence of the centuries-old Pudu Jail, which will also be thorn down soon.

4. The winning international architect for the iconic signature tower has yet to be announced.

5. The final masterplan was revealed yesterday and thus is completed. The leading planner was Machado & Silvetti Associates of Boston USA.

6. The masterplan focused in creating a "global" environment for Kuala Lumpur. The masterplan features large green spaces, sustainable buildings, limited motor vehicle usage, large tranquil parks coupled with rooftop gardens and solid waste management eco-system.

7. Based on KL City Hall planning submission, there will be a provision of up to 24 towers, a large upscale shopping mall and retail boulevards with ample parking spaces. All structures to be erected will be dependent on market demand.

8. The Phase 1 of the project is due for completion in 2017. Construction has started.

9. Tun Razak Exchange will also host an underground MRT station, which is currently under construction.
