KULIM - Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) akan membuka dua kampus cawangan iaitu di Pagoh, Johor dan Kulim Hitech Park di sini tidak lama lagi.

Naib Canselornya, Prof. Datuk Dr. Kamaruddin Hussin berkata, kampus cawangan di Pagoh telah mendapat persetujuan Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi dan tapaknya juga sudah dikenal pasti.

Beliau berkata, projek pembinaan kampus di Pagoh itu akan bermula awal tahun depan dengan Sime Darby Bhd. sebagai pemaju utama.

"Bagi cawangan di Kulim pula pihak kami telah pun berunding dengan Presiden Kulim Technology Park Corporation (KTPC), Mohammad Sobri Othman untuk mendapat satu tapak yang sesuai untuk bangunan universiti dalam tempoh terdekat," katanya kepada pemberita selepas majlis sambutan Hari Raya UniMAP-Industri di Anjung UniMAP di sini semalam.

Hampir 500 pekerja industri di sini hadir pada majlis itu.

Kamaruddin berkata, kampus cawangan di Pagoh kelak akan memberi tumpuan untuk melahirkan lebih banyak modal insan yang kompetitif terutama dalam bidang nanoteknologi dan pengurusan perniagaan bagi menjana bidang perniagaan dan kewangan khususnya untuk memenuhi keperluan pertumbuhan kawasan industri Iskandar Malaysia.

"Kampus di Kulim pula akan dinaik taraf bagi menggantikan Anjung UniMAP sedia ada dan akan dimulakan dengan kira-kira 100 tenaga pengajar. Jumlah itu akan ditambah dari semasa ke semasa kerana permintaan modal insan keluaran UniMAP di sini semakin meningkat," katanya.

Major improvement for Kulim Hospital

THE Kulim Hospital now boasts a Computerised Tomography Scan (CT Scan) machine and more improvements are in store.

It was equipped with the RM1.4mil computerised X-ray machine on July 1.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said another RM1.4mil was spent on building the premises to house the facility.

“Patients living in the district now don’t have to travel to Seberang Jaya Hospital in Penang or hospitals in Alor Setar to undergo scanning.

“Prior to that, about 1,000 cases had to be referred to nearby hospitals yearly.

“It is a milestone of sort for the Kulim Hospital,” he said after launching the machine during his working visit to the hospital yesterday.

Liow said CT scan was vital to assist surgeons and medical specialists in diagnosing a broad range of medical conditions.

Liow said the hospital’s Intensive Care Unite (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) would be upgraded to accommodate more beds at a cost of RM600,000.

He added that the ministry would also carry out upgrading works at the operating theatre and the parking space of the hospital.

Since last year, he said, the ministry had approved 14 new CT scan machines for Government hospitals.

“Besides the CT scan machines, six hospitals were equipped with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines,” he said.

The event also saw the hospital receiving five haemodialysis machines, two from the ministry and three donated by Kulim-Bandar Baharu Umno coordinator Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir.

“I have given out more than RM1mil to the hospital during my working visit here,” he said.

Also present were Kedah Health director Dr Ismail Abu Taat and Kulim Hospital director Dr Asmayani Khalib.
