I've found they haven't started the main tower, they're busy with the residential towers.

i cannot see any water on the render. where is it supposed to be? behind the three skyscrapers in the gap, large open area behind it? are this the lighed up buildings on the right side of the render? or the ones behind it?

Figured it out, it's just a bit south of the location given in that link.

looking at the map all supertalls will be spread around the city. although wuhan will have 4 supertalls at least in the future it wont be a cluster of those and maybe not be possible to see more than 2 buildings in one skyline picture

Yes. Wuhan is getting the most decentralised skyline ever. Wangjiadun is likely to get several supertalls though.
