[QUOTE=RobH;93472282]Relly think this shiould be moved to "Completed" now:
This not the final stadium, just the Olympic configuration. We are yet to see what is going to be permanently on this site.

Anyone know where would be the best place to see the stadium from?
The problem is I don't have an Olympic ticket so won't be able to go to the Olympic site, just really want to go nearby WHILST the games are on. |

Take the Overground (goes right through the park) or the DLR from Poplar gives a good view (left side). then go to John Lewis in Westfield.

Fly into Heathrow from Belfast. We flew right over it. Also flew over Emirates as well.

I was very sceptical of the "don't judge until the wraps are on" narrative. Didn't think anything would 'hide' the abrupt and clumsy way the top half of the 'frame' abruptly ruins the neat skeletal form of the lights and the bottom half of the 'frame'.
But now, job done I think. Orbit's a fucking mess though.

I hope they can make the pitch more rectangular to mimic Wembley or Twickenham. But that's just wishful thinking.

http://www.londonlegacy.co.uk/invest...e/the-stadium/ The seating will be made a rectanlge shape by hiding all the seats behiind the big screens in hoardings (They will still be there) roughly as I described in a previous post but I think I did not blank out enough seats. |

David Cameron was on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show this morning, dropping some big hints about the post-Olympic stadium and the configuration. Comments at 15:30.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00x4h8v "If its going to be used by a football club...it does have to change" "You need to be closer to the action, and that's the difference between a football stadium and an Olympics stadium" "what you'll see in a few years in Stratford...is a football stadium with a team anchored right in it" |

My guess would still be the bottom level replaced with Stade De France like seating, it is afterall fairly small and there is a bit of an overhang in athletics mode so you wouldnt be looking at that large a "gap" between the teires in football mode.
The view from the top level shouldnt be a problem if you ask me, I was near the back at one of the ends and the view of the pitch area wasnt bad at all, not too high and not too far back. |

If any team is to get the Olympic Stadium it really should be West Ham, they're the only team in that area that are suited to the stadium. Tottenham shouldn't get it because it's not their area and Leyton Orient don't have the support.

They were interested in the site. But never the stadium. |

Well Tottenham ruled themselves out of it a long time ago, and while the clubs owners may, perhaps, be slightly envious now that some new seating configuration appears likely, the fans wont be at all, im sure. Orient know its too big for them alone, so their bid is predicated on sharing with West Ham. The other two bids are absolute jokes, so it looks like its either West Ham, or West Ham plus Orient.

To have a proper retractable seating system, a stadium has to be specifically designed to accommodate retractable seating. The London Olympic stadium wasn't thus designed. The best that could happen, I guess, is for temporary seating to be installed during the football season - to be dismantled during the summer, for athletics. |

I wonder how much of the interest in the site was due to the influence of people with similar thinking to Oxo (obsessed with 'rebranding' and being nearer to central London and places like CW) rather than merely about saving costs. I cannot believe it was solely about the latter, not least since football is full of executives and marketing heads with that type of idiotic thinking.

There wouldn't actually have been much (if any) cost saving to Spurs since, under their plan, they would have had to dismantle the existing stadium, build a new stadium, redevelop and increase the capacity of Crystal Palace and invest a million or two per annum into grassroots athletics. Transport was obviously a major attraction. As was location. But another factor that is often overlooked is that Spurs' partners in their Olympic stadium bid were AEG. And that would, crucially, have meant sharing of construction costs and / or a big cut of all the non football events that AEG organised. |
