To start the international terminal, 7 aerobridges are fine, bcoz the international traffic is not very heavy. In another month or so, they can install the remaining 11. But why they are delaying the immigration counters and baggage screening.

TV missing from airport VIP lounge

http://www.telegraphindia.com/112080...p#.UCHxyE3ib0w

A television set worth about Rs 20,000 went missing from the VIP lounge of Calcutta airport’s international terminal building on Tuesday.

The airport authorities have lodged a police complaint. Officials said they were clueless about how a 20-inch LCD screen went missing from the high-security area.

The television set was fixed to the wall at the lounge, which is meant for the chief minister of Bengal and other states, state and Union ministers, governors and senior government officials.

“We have received a complaint. A probe is being conducted,” said an official at the airport police station. A case of theft has been started.

Sources said the authorities were not ruling out an inside job, as the room — known as the reserved lounge — is always manned by airport staff.

“We are not ruling out anything. Someone at the airport might also have shifted it to some other wing to watch some programme or sporting event,” an airport official said.

Officials said they couldn’t recall a similar incident. “We often hear of passengers’ items being stolen but this is a first, and that too, from the reserved lounge,” said a senior official, who has worked at the airport for nearly 10 years.

The lounge is manned round the clock by Group D staff. Also, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel regularly make rounds.

“It’s almost impossible for someone to take a 20-inch television set without raising suspicion,” the official said, adding anyone taking out an article belonging to the airport authorities from the terminal building needed to show proper documents to CISF personnel at the exit point.

Police & CISF officials won't be able to catch the culprit.

As per their quote:

This means a total loose security at the Airport. The Group-D staffs along with the TOUTS (famous in Kolkata Airport) might be involved in this whole exercise.
Moreover, readers, don't think that Police & other security officials are unaware about it.
They're very much aware about the incident & they're now hiding themselves to get rid of it.Police & CISF have made loopholes to have this incident.

AGAIN,....feeling proud to be a KOLKATAN

This could be done by a TV mechanic also. He might have taken out the TV on the pretext of repairing it and the security didn't bother to cross check. A minor incident like this shows how sloppy our security is. With this type of security, how can they protect people from terrorist attack?

Ya, its just a TV. Politicians, corporates are looting millions every day in this country.

Probably WB govt should also start the free TV distribution scheme to the poor.

He is a group D staff Raj. How much do you think he must be earning? Am not defending his actions but one should certainly take into consideration what was the motive behind his actions. May be it was just a desperate act to make a few quick bucks. Or may be not. And at the end of the day its just a TV. As Saraf said we have bigger thieves to take care right now. Namely the AAI and its baboodom which will spell doom for the new terminal too if it is going to be managed by them. (The prophecy has been made )

The man is an employee of AAI & earns around 30k/mnth...so he dreamt of an LCD at home, but, immediately he couldn't afford it.So,it's easy way.

Rightly said that Ministers,Bureaucrats,Politicians are raping the country every now & then....so why not the common citizens?
