Well, if not for the fact that he's Justin Bieber, that guy will look just like any other Mat Salleh fellow in a local shopping mall... And the Forever 21 credit card receipt proves it all!

Harbour Mall begins operations in Sandakan

By Haziq Hamid of theedgeproperty.com
Monday, 16 July 2012 16:15

SANDAKAN (Sabah) July 16, 2012: Sandakan's first modern lifestyle mall dubbed Harbour Mall opened its doors for business on July16, 2012.

Harbour Mall, part of the award-winning urban renewal project Sandakan Harbour Square, commands a gross development value (GDV) of RM510 million and is the first air-conditioned modern lifestyle mall that offers shopping, dining and leisure under one roof.

According to Datuk James Wong, Sandakan Municipal Council president, the mall has provided a social rejuvenation to Sandakan.

"The Sandakan Harbour Square project as a whole has provided social rejuvenation to Sabah's second largest city, Sandakan, by creating a lot of employment and business opportunities," he said. "Now with the opening of Harbour Mall will definitely complement Sandakan's position as a famous eco-tourism destination in the region."

The mall is developed through a joint venture between ICSD Ventures Sdn Bhd (a subsidiary of London-listed Aseana Properties Ltd) and the Sandakan Municipal Council and is managed by Ireka Development Management Sdn Bhd.

Harbour Mall is located in Sandakan's central business district (CBD) fronting the coastal shores of Sandakan Bay. One of the mall's anchor tenants include Parkwell Department Store and Supermarket, a successful department store chain in East Malaysia. The Selera Sandakan Food Court occupies 11,000 sq ft of space while an entertainment and games area takes up 6,000 sq ft. The mall also offers 978 covered parking bays and valet service.

Other brands include McDonald's, Levi's, Gintell, GNC, The Body Shop, Tomei Gold & Jewellery, Aza Jewelleries, Guardian, Watsons, SN Mutiara, SOG, Jeff Eyewear Space, Bazaar Street, Cars International , Peace Collection, Frico and Cool City.

According to Lai Voon Hon, managing director of ICSD Ventures Sdn Bhd, he has confidence the mall will be the pride and joy for the locals.

"We are confident that Harbour Mall will be the centre of pride and enjoyment for local Sandakanians and tourists alike, as this modern and impressive building is set to be a new iconic landmark in the town's central business district," he said. "With all the reputable brands and experienced international mall operator CBRE on board, as well as the exciting promotional activities in the pipeline, shoppers can surely expect a rewarding and unforgettable shopping experience."

Ireka Development Management Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary of Ireka Corporation Bhd (Ireka). Ireka was founded in 1967 and was listed on the main board of Bursa Malaysia in 2002. The group's activities are divided into three core businesses which are infrastructure, real estate and technologies.

Malls' machines accept new notes

CONVENIENT:Shopping centres have calibrated their parking machines to facilitate payment of new series of banknotes

MID Valley Megamall and The Gardens are among the earliest shopping complexes in the Klang Valley to have fully calibrated all their auto pay machines to accept the new Malaysian banknote series which was released on July 16.

Mid Valley Megamall carpark manager Mohammed Rodzi Jaafar said there are 22 autopay stations (APS) for parking in Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens shopping complexes.

"All APS were ready to accept the new series of banknotes a day before the notes went into circulation," he said.

"The APS, however, will still accept the old banknotes," he added.

Salmizam Awang, 34, a housewife from Kuala Lumpur, said, "I hope more shopping complexes will follow the example of Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens to make it convenient for customers to pay."

Themed "Distinctively Malaysia", the new banknotes series comprises denominations of RM1, RM5, RM10, RM20 and RM100.

The old RM50 banknote has been in circulation since December 2007 and will continue to do so.

Before the issuance of the new notes, Bank Negara Malaysia had been working closely with financial institutions, businesses, cash handling vendors and local councils to facilitate a smooth transition to the new series.

Bank Negara officials urged all the relevant parties to expedite their machine calibrations for the convenience of the public.

Other places which have calibrated their machines include Sunway REIT Management Sdn Bhd, The Curve, Alamanda Shopping Centre, Berjaya Times Square, Bangsar Shopping Centre, Central Market, Cheras Leisure Mall, Fahrenheit88, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Plaza Low Yat, Sungei Wang Plaza, Suria KLCC, Summit USJ Subang, Wangsa Walk Mall, The Mines, Tropicana City Mall, Empire Shopping Gallery, SSTWO Mall, IOI Mall, 3 Two Square, Sogo, Lot 10, Avenue K, Viva Mall (Cheras) and Plaza Masalam (Shah Alam).

In Malacca, Mahkota Parade and Hatten Square have upgraded their auto pay parking machines.

Machines which accept the new banknotes series bear a Bank Negara sticker.

Seriously, who edited this piece of garbage?? I never knew that hypermarkets are being considered as MALLS and what's up with the mixture of BM and BI in an English Language wiki page? Not to mention listing DEAD MALLS and under proposal malls? Oh and the use of broken english ?

Two H&M Stores this year....

H&M Open second store in Setia City Mall the following month, after the launch of Lot10 store..

Gwen OngAugust 2, 20128

It is confirmed! The opening of Malaysia’s first ever H&M will be on Saturday, September 22! YAY!

“We are excited to finally open H&M here in Malaysia and to be expanding within the South East Asian market. H&M has always been about making fashion and quality at the best price and we look forward to bringing something new and exciting to Kuala Lumpur,” said Lex Keijser, Country Manager for H&M Greater China, Singapore and Malaysia.

And truly excited we are! The first H&M store at Lot 10, Bukit Bintang KL will spread across 36,000 square feet and spanning three levels of prime retail space. Imagine the amount of shopping one will be able to do!

H&M is marking its debut in the Malaysian market with the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. As seen from the preview last month, we are sure many will go ga-ga of the selection which plays on minimalism vs maximalism.

And that is not all. Following its expansion plans, H&M will be opening a SECOND store in Malaysia in the following months too! Get ready for this folks, the location is at Setia City Mall, Shah Alam.

Looks like H&M is set to conquer the hearts of shopaholics in the country! And for that, we thank them for coming to our shores and all the best!

Yea.....this page is a major embarrassment for Malaysia

Anyway, there is a fine line that seperates hypermarkets and malls. Those hypermarts these days are like little malls themselves with them being the 'anchor tenant'. Furthermore the fact that there are no specific guildelines on 'what is a mall?' or some sort of a definition rendered the abuse of the word 'mall'.

My personal opinion & observation is that a place with more than 10-20 stores conbe considered a mall (stores/retail outlet and not kiosk).
