I hope they stick with just "MUMBAI". Writing "CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MUMBAI" will probably take up entire length of the terminal's arm :P
Yes, the name has to be embedded into the design in glass facade, otherwise mostly then put on top with some steel support and feel like a sore thumb in the whole design .

Yes, this is a nicely and well thought logo design with CSIA written inside the peacock feather

Look what cropped up out of nowhere!

Mumbai: Soon, hop on to pod cars for the airport

Quote:
Mumbai: Your usually frantic and anxious trips to the airport to catch flights could soon be things of the past. If the MSRDC’s plans bear fruit, you may soon find yourself cruising in state-of-the-art pod cars moving on raised platforms, high above busy roads and congested highways. These pod cars, which will connect airports to adjacent areas, is the second such venture in the country — the other is under construction in Amritsar.

The pod car system — known formally as Personal Rapid Transit System (PRTS) — is a new-age mode of public transportation designed for swift travel in congested areas. The operation of the pod car network will be similar to that of traditional rail and streetcar networks, moving on raised tracks. A single pod car has a capacity of four to six persons at a time. The pod car project is in the initial stages of planning, and more developments are expected to take place over the next month.

Speaking to MiD DAY, MSRDC chief engineer S Nandargikar said, “We are keen on implementing the PRTS pod car project connecting the airport to nearby areas. At present, passengers on their way to the airport to catch flights often get stuck in traffic. In order to provide them a hassle-free and speedy journey, we are planning to come up with this project in the airport area.”

Lol.. out of nowhere... hmmm maybe they were just reading something about MASDAR city in Abu Dhabi, then decided that it would be very fitting for bombay.. http://www.greenprophet.com/2011/05/...od-car-makers/

Actually, thinking about it, these pods could be of use within bom airport... transporting passengers/workers from terminal to terminal or something like that :P

Seems like there are a bunch of ignorant babu log sitting at the municipality office checking out all kinds of transportation options across the world and whenever they find something new, they go "Aai shappath! Let's do this in Mumbai!"

Monorail, elevated rail corridor, now pod cars. What next? Maglev?

Thank heavens that the a/p is being done by a private entity. If it were in the hands of AAI, with the current rate of ideas that are springing up, there would be construction activity for the lifetime of the airport....
