Platform doors will be impossible to implement for the next 30 years or so due to the numerous trainset modifications which all have the doors at different places. As the trainsets are brand new it won't be before their end of life that a system with platform doors may be envisioned.

Even temperature distribution and the elements (easier to maintain). As the elevated segment is only a small portion of the track sudden temperature shifts are unwelcome. The louvres are for breezeway, as the trainsets move at high speeds and push the air in front, which otherwise would cause too much pressure on the light construction of the plexi. Finally, the nontranslucence of the plexi is indeed due to green house effect concerns.

Aside from the translucent aspect, Montreal/Quebec authority/ies really ought to consider Sofia's method of enclosing its el ... because of our extreme winters, M/Q refuse to have metro service emerging from underground

The photos prove it. It will be called European Union Station. That must be difficult news for devout Bulgarians to put up with.

I really like the Lavov most station, looks like a narrow dark street of london in victorian times...perhaps could we meet Charles Dickens arm in arm with Oliver Twist there...

...unless Sofia is the only world capital where women with loose morals don't exist (it would be such a shame )

According to a spotter, today the tests of the second line have allegedly started, with trains running from Obelya station along the new trackage towards Lozenets district.

Sofia metro (today and future developments)

In the recent days it was announced that the metro company of Sofia will try to include the construction of an another station into this program period of EU (meaning it must be ready until the end of 2015). The tender for the technical project was announced which will be followed by tender for choosing a construction company. This one station will bring line M2 to the Hladilnika neighbourhood, where is the terminus of many suburban buses, as well as home of one of Sofia’s biggest mall (still under construction).

So in the period between 2012 and 2015, a total of 8 stations will be constructed, and the network should be enlarged by another 10 kilometres. Here I don’t count the construction of line M3, which should start in 2014. In total at the end of 2015 we expect to have 35 stations and around 43 kilometres of system length, on both lines M1 and M2.

31 August 2012:

By the end of 2015:

By year 2020:
