Pretty much. The "Olympic spirit" envisaged by Pierre de coubertin has pretty much evaporated in recent decades. Since the decline of modern warfare between states, the Olympics has managed to fill a void for the jingoistic types... minus the whole death, blood and misery parts.

Britain won 1 gold medal in Atlanta 1996 which was seen as a national disgrace... then they pumped the money in big time, increased funding for sports science, grabbed the best coaches from around the world, budgets across the sector were boosted, and now sit third on the medal tally 16 years later. That's what the Olympics has became sadly.

Aly Raisman dedicated her floor routine to the victims of Munich. Well done Aly!

American gymnast Aly Raisman has revealed the music for her gold medal-winning floor routine at the London Olympics was a tribute to the victims of the 1972 Munich Games terror attack.

The 18-year-old said choosing Hava Nagila- a traditional score used for wedding dances and bat mitzvah - was a response to the International Olympic Committee's failure to mark the 40th anniversary of the tragedy.

And for Aly, from Needham, Massachusetts, she said it made her gold even more special.

'I can only imagine how painful it must be for the families and close personal friends of the victims,' she said.

Intresting what can be the reason for the failure? Maby just maby ineffective thirsty to for TV spotlight Minister of Sport that doesn't do anything to promote Israeli sport.
